I'm new here,.... actually I'm registered since last Christmas, but I got busy...so that's the first time I'm posting here something.
Confused by all that diffrent forums (dicussion, poetry ...) I hope I will get along some day ?... and how do I leave a good comment about a poem if I'm not really an expert about structure and cadenza etc...?

Hi, welcome to the site. If you read the Important Threads of novice you'll see that you don't have to be an expert to leave a meaningful comment. I find if I read a poem I like enough times I can pinpoint some of the things that make me like it. Or, if something turns me off sometimes I can figure out why.  Tada, a valid post. Smile

Ok, thanks Smile I was just unsure... I'll give it to my best

Hey guys!
Names Daniel, but I guess that doesn't really matter.
I'm new to poetry entirely, I've just recently developed an interest in expanding my knowledge of the craft since finding a poetry book by Charles Bukowski and becoming enthralled by the simple yet awe inspiring brilliance that a few lines can have.

Was just wondering... I don't know if I'm really suited to critique anyone's poetry since, well, I'm not very experienced, and I don't want to say anything silly about someone else's work.
Is this the only way that I can discuss poetry? I really joined this forum to get some recommendations from users with more of a back log of poets and forms of poetry, and to learn about all things poetry, and I'm not exactly interested in posting my own extremely novice poems.

Ok, so, I've taken the time to read through a few of the instructional posts and it seems that this forum expects me to give critiques...

I'll attempt it, but as I said before, I'm a complete poetry newbie. I hope that the things I say don't sound too ridiculous, so, apologies in advance :3
Hi Daniel, you don't need to be an expert to tell someone what you do and don't like, or what does and doesn't work for you in a poem. Having said that, you're very welcome to just play about in the poetry practice threads without any requirement to critique so you can get your skills up and know a bit more about what you're reading.

Welcome aboard.

Thanks Leanne, hopefully this forum will help me to discover more about this highly emotional art form (the best kind, in my opinion Tongue)
most of us have said something about some one's poem and then regretted it because it was pretty silly.  no sweat. we're forgiving. all we ask is that you try. i think i deleted an odd piece of your feedback but fear not, try your feedback out in non feedback forums till you get the hang of it, just type in the post [trial feedback]  good luck andbeyond

Gretel

Hello all,
My pen name is Gretel and I'm new to this forum but have been posting for a while over at Poetfreak. I'm looking for help drawing my thoughts with words and also learning more about poetry. I too am nervous about giving critiques - which thread do you recommend us newbies start in? Thanks!

Hi, Gretel, welcome to the site. My suggestion is to go to the Novice forum, read the guidelines and important threads then start reading the threads. When you find a piece that moves you to read repeatedly you'll probably have something to say about a strong or weak point or why it moved you to keep reading. Three of those and you're a member of the Pen, easy. Smile

Any of the novice threads are great for getting your sea legs. I recommend reading the stickies posted at the top of each forum as they are loaded with great tips and reading one or two critiques in each of the forums to get a feel how others are going about it.

Welcome to the pen.
Good luck! ?

Yes, for me flowing poems onto beats usually beats flowing beats onto poems.
Have always loved internal and multisyllabic rhymes. Damn hard to do (especially the keeping it to 4/4 part).
Welcome

Oh well.  Tongue

Your problem may involve excessive clicking to the left of the edit box.
This, however, does not diminish (well, not a whole lot anyway) your status as a
newbie pig-pen-penner. The customary first obligation of newbies is to wash Leanne's
"car" (at least that's what she calls it... but, she being a master of metaphor, I must
defer to her nomenclature). For specifics, ask the one we call "billy".

Still lost at how to do things, and I have read help and all the posts??

Hi, Thomo, if you go to UserCP and click on your posts you'll see that most of your posts are in the For Fun forum where anything goes. As explained in your welcome letter only posts in the workshops (Novice, Mild and Serious) count towards your actual post count. Three are needed to start threads and you only have one.

I hope this explains it. Smile
never pm billy, it's against forum rules and makes a mockery of site etiquette
What is this site etiquette you speak of...
"Poll: Should pen newbies be called pewbies? "

Disappointed there was no "only if they stink" option.

Hi. I am a dragon. I won't eat billy, though. Unless he disparages ska, then I still won't. It might just mean he's in a ska band.
i was joking Wink
