My name is Toni. I have not written in a long while, but I'm eager to start up again, but I'm nervous about receiving feedback. I hope this will be the type of environment that will teach me that critiquing can be a positive thing both for me and my writing.

I also look forward to meeting you all and reading some of your wonderful work.

When I'm not writing, I'm usually binge-watching a show on Netflix, reading, listening to music or obsessing about some of my favorite things. These include, but of course are not limited to: Harry Potter, penguins, handbags, my dachshund, my cat, coffee, etc.

I also have a day job as a Data Coordinator. It pays the bills and I enjoy it, but in truth I dream about being published someday. Le sigh.

Feel free to message me any time. Big Grin

Thanks!

For I am of the Odezilla Poet's Camp - yes judging by my name - I somewhat enjoy writing odes and reading odes - and the zilla - yes you're talking to a Godzilla aficionado Smile

I am probably the worst poet yet - probably worst than Mcgonnagal - and the fact I am still trying yet to figure out verses, the difference between the sonnets and well limericks, free verses and such ...

Even though I never took up literature in high school and University - I dunno why BUT I just picked up writing poetry when I just finished high-school ... but then due to discouragement from peers I kept off it until last year I found some of the first poems I wrote and I took it from there ...

I mainly write LONG POEMS (so at the very least 1-2000 words or so) and the longest yet poem I've written is also called Odezilla II - and it spans 23K words - not the longest poem in the world - and I dunno if anyone's written a similar sized poem specifically on Godzilla - but probably not as good as anyone else's poems but reading the rules I must post some comments and insightful feedback first ...

And yes I love Godzilla - been watching him since 2 years old Wink

And let's see ... I write poems also on Godzilla, Dinosaurs, Star Wars but I am happy to take up requests ...

Next year I'm writing a BIGGER poem on Godzilla - up to 40-60K words and in 2018? When Godzilla 2 is out? Up to 100K words ... yes every year when a Godzilla film is released - so in 2016 with Japan - I will write a BIGGER poem on Godzilla until then ...

Well enough of my ranting eh? I must be already boring you all to death and asleep and with histrionics eh?

Snowflake

hi baylay,

welcome to the site we're always in need of feedback Smile

I look forward to being active on this site. It looks like a good and constructive environment. My writing has come to a bit of a stand-still in the recent weeks, so that's why I'm here. I'd like to get feedback on some of my older work so that I can focus on revisions while my writing brain is struggling. I enjoy giving critical feedback as well, so I'll also be offering as many comments as I can.

A little about me:

I'm 24. I've been publishing my poetry for the last two years, finding most of my success this year, landing in journals such as Rattle. I love poetry. Due to my life circumstances, I can't go to school to study it, but I would love to in the future when I can afford it. In the meantime, I study vigorously on my own. I've read well over 50 books of poetry this year.

I'm a mother of two wonderful boys, and I'm married to a great guy and fellow writer. In general, life is pretty good. I'm looking forward to being active in this community, like I said.

See you all around! Smile

My name is Turtle and my hobbies include: saving the planet, becoming the strongest version of myself everyday, and stealing kittens from crazy cat ladies. Other than that, I enjoy writing poetry and telling lies.  big hug

I live in Montana and I'm an indigenous man of the Amskapi Pikunni. Writing is a beautiful way of expression. I'm here to share and be shared, and I look forward to getting to know people here.

I've succeeded (a few times) with stealing kittens from crazy cat people.
Though usually there's no stealing. They appear, dressed as angels, on some street,
or in the woods, or (usually) at my doorstep.

There's a virus on their teeth, their claws as well -- think vampires, zombies, werewolves.
It's fine as long as you avoid their scratches.
But you can't.
Welcome to crazy-catville.

"Telling lies" is just another name for "writing"; you'll do fine.

Life's fine, life usually is; the problem is us.

PigPen is us.
Oh, wait, now it's you as well!

Welcome Snowflake, consider yourself part of the problem.

I'm new. I stopped writing many years ago and have begun to feel inspired in recent months. I'd like to work on the quality of my poems, so hopefully you've all got plenty of kind but constructive comments.

Hello and a happy eve to all.  Smile

Hi,

I originally wrote up a detailed account explaining why I came here, but I opted not to post it. Writing it was tedious and reading it would have been too. We all have similar reasons for joining this forum, so I'm sure you all have a decent idea.

I'll keep it short.

Writing poetry has been a personal affair. I've only recently discovered a desire to share it — a notion that seemed taboo not too long ago. However, I must improve as both a writer and reader of poetry enable to do this. That's why I joined this site. I hope to accomplish this by reading others' work, exchanging ideas, and giving/receiving constructive criticism.

I look forward to meeting you all. Everyone seems to have a good sense of humor.  Smile

Here's my response to the same question I just received from someone else via PM.

Hi, welcome to the site. This is a workshop based on give and take. Just read your welcome letter and if you need some critique tips you'll find them in the important threads of Novice. If you can write a poem I'm sure you can read them. Smile

Hope you enjoy the site, it's a great place to learn, starting with learning to read carefully and critique.

No fear, there are people here who are quite expert at fathoming the seemingly
unfathomable. Just post a few fathomable comments and ye shall receive like.

Desires to share should always be suspect.
Breaking taboos, on the other hand, will stand you in good stead.

ellajam has given you your answer. I would just like to express my fondness for the pluck
and antisocial attitude required to adopt the screen-name "leavemealone" while knowing, in advance,
that what you desire is not to be. As this sort of conflicted psyche is a prime requisite for any poet,
you'll do well (unfortunately, said psyche will prevent you from ever knowing this).

A grand welcome to you all Smile,

I'm new here,.... actually I'm registered since last Christmas, but I got busy...so that's the first time I'm posting here something.
Confused by all that diffrent forums (dicussion, poetry ...) I hope I will get along some day ?... and how do I leave a good comment about a poem if I'm not really an expert about structure and cadenza etc...?

Hi, welcome to the site. If you read the Important Threads of novice you'll see that you don't have to be an expert to leave a meaningful comment. I find if I read a poem I like enough times I can pinpoint some of the things that make me like it. Or, if something turns me off sometimes I can figure out why. Tada, a valid post. Smile
