Donning these faces like an emotional masquerade
People offer their help yet I try to evade
Ashamed of my past, not at all what I wanted
How did other succeed, so bold and undaunted?
Standing in a corner afraid to speak up
Knowing what will happen, like Pavlov's beaten pup
So much to offer yet no one reaches out
Overshadowed by someone whose strength is their clout
Those close to me I hurt and push away
Who wants to listen to what I have to say?
My soul isn't happy, it's gray with depression
The smile on the outside, just an acting session
The captain of a ship on the Sea of Unease
Always trying to help, always trying to please
But life is a gift we should never surrender
So take in the light and revel in its splendor
