The Vote
Because this act shall most affect
my jurisdiction, it must be recalled
that it is not unprecedented
for the speaker not only to confirm the vote
but to add his own. The Eyes have it.
She is beautiful -- all hinges on this fact --
and whatever blemishes were found
by the Ears, on hearing her sing,
or the Neck, on marking her slouch,
or even the Mind, on bearing the brunt
of her volatility,
are easily forgiven. Indeed, the Groin is right,
though he abstains to keep things chaste,
that from her youth we shall derive
a bit of long lost honesty,
just as she may be tempered by our doting.
It is settled: we shall fall in love,
and we shall do so earnestly.

Jesus is socks
Jesus is finishing off the native Americans
Jesus is meatloaf, the man
Jesus is a windmill full of corpses
Jesus is consent
Jesus is an Oedipus complex
Jesus is the American dream
Jesus is waking up half naked in a Denny's parking lot

Voting the Rascals In
To vote is to choose
between the greater rascal
and the lesser
and be ruled in any case
by rascals.
One also has a choice
(in non-Communist nations)
not to vote
for either
and be ruled by rascals anyway.
Let us by clear:
the only way to escape forced choice
of voting is to die
(and have one’s vote counted
for the greater rascal eternally).

Isn't it Meat Loaf, to be technically accurate? Just sayin'.

It was a Cards Against Humanity turn, should have capitalized it for sure.
(Afterwards realized this is not a voting game, it's about 'selections')

The appointed man
the one with the plan
probably who can!
The appointed man
the one who will do alright
maybe just over night.
The appointed man
now we admit
we're really getting tired of his shit.
The appointed man
we've set the bar low
and now our country has gotten vertigo.
The appointed man--
probably won't kill us.

This one fits nicely with the prompt and is such an enjoyable take on the (ir)rationality of falling in love. That second to last line really takes the poem home. Thanks for sharing River

Not being one of the elect
I can relax and wallow in my sins.
I’ll be left behind I suspect
but if Jesus wants to harrow hell
he’s going to need some good horses.

The Platform
The candidate espouses
that black lives matter
because all lives matter
but you can't say
"All Lives Matter"
without appropriating
"Black Lives Matter"
because it cheapens black lives
and that's how we got here
in the first place.
