Is there better feeling than
that dawning when the flu has gone,
its sniffles dry,
groaning headache absent,
stomach quiet, undisturbed
throat no more than slightly rough,
and finally, eyes bright
no jelly tears or bloodshot whites,
end of a bad affair with viruses,
body healed all light and fit?

Yes: intoxicating, fine, expansive
feeling better than perfection,
senses sharp, all muscles strong,
loins deliciously alert
as from initial notice of and by
an inamorata yet to be.
Body sings, its engines rev
as deep beneath mind’s conscious notice
it prepares to fight
the new flu just contracted.
