I am enjoying your thread. It's fun to come up with imaginative clues and arrange them in a somewhat poetic manner.

Riddle me this:

This word is rather contradictory.
It can be action or none at all, you see.
It is often fast, in the early morn,
while slowing down by the afternoon.

Is it
milk?

Hi QueenC,

This sat so long that I figured it was buried forever. Thanks for resurrecting it and taking a stab. I may as well reveal the answer.  I can see where ‘milk’ could work, but I wrote this with ‘break’ in mind:

This word is rather contradictory.
It can be action (break a dish) or none at all (take a break), you see.
It is often fast, in the early morn (breakfast),
while slowing down by the afternoon (afternoon break).

Cheers/Chris

Sorry Chris, I've always wanted to put a picture of a spoiler in one of them 'View Spoiler' boxes, and now seemed like as good an opportunity as any.
May I offer you this exploding lemon as a form of compensation

Thanks for saying my curiosity! I wish the thread was more active, I'm slow, but I love riddles anyway. I was sure I had that one! dangitSmile

(This came to me fast, so it may be too easy.)

I am coarse on paper
and blinding in a storm.
Too long in your bikini,
I will rough up your form.

Confined under glass
I can count the hours.
Geologists respect
my eroding power.

You've gotten another milo, but others can try without peaking at the spoiler. Now you owe us one.

It's harder to think up one than I thought, I'll have to come back to it...

This is the first riddle I've ever written so apologies in advance, I think it reads more like a cryptic crossword clue  Huh

I'm a backwards celebrity,
I'm a tyrant confused.
I'm antipodean insanity,
I do this when I speak with the blues.
I'm an exclamation; I am goddamn!!
I'm closer to you than you think I am.

That was my guess other than the blues line.

No, sorry, but that may be more to do with the way I've written it.
I'll leave the answer below and then you can tell me how ridiculous my clues were or not, and then hopefully I'll get better with practise.

Rats

I'm a backwards celebrity, --- Star --- rats backwards
I'm a tyrant confused. ---- Tsar --- anagram of rats
I'm antipodean insanity, --- Rats is Australian slang for crazy
I do this when I speak with the blues. --- Blues are the police -- an informer 'rats' on people
I'm an exclamation; I am goddamn!! --- Oh rats!! is an exclamation the same as goddamn
I'm closer to you than you think I am. --- So they say, never more than 6 feet away from them

Shall I quit writing riddles before it gets any worse?  Tongue

Well, I never would have gotten it. It's too clever, and I wasnt aware rats were slang for crazy..Makes sense after your explaining it though.
