primarily; not to show the hostage taker on the bus the nasty treatment you're giving to his family via the bis television. also that if you're going to rush the bus with the hostage taqker on it, do so as quickly as possible. do not allow the surging of the bus by police to take 30 minutes.
also when a hostage taker stands in the doorway of the bus with an armalite rifle or ak 47. shoot him through the head via a sniper. (train a sniper or two for future hostage situation.

It is not an easy situation to deal with, when the hostage taker is a trained, former police officer gone nuts.

True. But it's hard to use that as an excuse when it's obvious the police failed in even the most elementary aspects of handling the crisis.
