What languages do you know?

I feel a bit more at home now. ,-)

(insofar as I am not the only non-native speaker of English).
I have a different attitude towards languages. Phrases like " to know a language" or " being fluent in .." do not make much sense to me.
I only want to be creative in German and English. I have a crush
on Italian and Brazilian Portuguese but am totally fine with enjoying these cuties. I "like" Spanish and I "adore" French.
As to communication skills, by way of showing not telling ,-) :
I once had some Persian /Iranian friends here in Germany.
They "knew" no German and I "knew" not how to talk Farsi. Both our Englishes were faulty. Strangely enough: we were talking all the time and enjoyed it.
So, I am brazen enough to boast with my fluency of the talk of the eyes, smiles and hands.
But I can top this: I can easily understand DOGgish and CATtish. They have some probs getting my outlandish accent but we're getting along.

I speak English (even the Brit kind, on occasion.) I am pretty good Spanish, know a bit of French (only took one year) and can do a tad of German and phonetic Japanese. Oh yeah, and I'm extremely fluent in ubby dubby.

I speak English fluently, Finnish perfectly and I'm about to learn Swedish since it is our official language (but only minority speak it as their first language). Kinda embarrassing that I don't speak our official language at all, but happily Swedish is very easy and should not be that big of a problem.

Chris, you technically know latin, which is of some use since it is the basis of so many other languages!

I'm originally from Puerto Rico, a little island territory of the United states. So I learned Spanish very young and retained a lot before moving to the states where I learned English. I took Japanese and French, so I know how to have an intelligent conversation and order a pizza in both of those languages But I speak a mix of Spanish and English normally.

English (America), Portuguese(Brazil), Spanish(Puerto Rico, Mexico, Colombia), Latin(from studies only, haven't had many conversations) French(Canada, mostly, but I read a lot of French poetry), Finnish, and some basic tourist handbook Mandarin...in that order.

I've spoken these languages all over, but my accents, idioms, slangs, metaphors, and figures of speach are clearly North, Central, and South American.

Brazilian Portuguese true? I've forgotten a lot of mine but still consider it the most beautiful language on earth, much more so than the French now I speak on a daily basis. Even used to write some poetry in Portuguese-- it seemed so much easier than in English, because the language is naturally so rhythmic.
