In the end of what?I started with "In the end" to try and give it some layers. It could mean that no matter what, in the end I wind up waking alone. "The end" could also be interpreted as the aftermath of the narrator's own one night stand, after which his perceptions of the situation have changed. That might be a little too obscure though.
