Is it a crucifixion or circumcision? Intriguing/intimidating piece!

(Did you have your exhibition yet?)

Well, funny thing is, I am usually rather spontaneous when it comes to painting. I usually start before I have a concrete idea about what I am going to paint. I have some idea, of course, but I like the Bacon concept of accident. I will use photos mainly, but only after I have already started to apply paint to canvas. However, in this case, I wanted to paint The Crucifixion. So i got all these pictures of the crucifixion, statues, other paintings, ect. And then went to the canvas. But then I made two lines and it turned into something else, then I lost all control, with the exception of the cross lines. It isn't finished though. But I posted it because I kind of like it, and can only imagine it will be lost soon enough.
Nope, the exhibition isn't until April. I got posters through today, but they are no good. So I have to design more. Luckily the company I get the posters from has agreed to refund my money so I am basically getting them for free. And the ones I have are not that bad (now they are free) so I can use them, they are just a bit dull.
I am also a bit concerned about the gallery, because all the paintings there are pretty formal and not very contemporary, not very punk and dirty. Concerned, but also like that ideaSmile

That's a great way to work a painting. I approach watercolor painting in a similar manner, i.e., working from reference photos. However, I stick with a general composition. There are many loss of control accidents with watercolors that you either live with or go with their flow. It yields novelty.

I think that I would prefer your company of exhibitors. You will be the stand out. Best on it!

Hi shem - your painting is very phallic to me - and there's a woman there as well. I like the disembodied eye, and the curving lines move me around the picture well. I'd be interested to see this when you have finished it. And all the best for your exhibition!

thanks(: Fortunately/unfortunately, I will be the stand out regardless, as I have the front space and the biggest space, the whole front room and window :/ I think it will be amusing at any rate. On the opening I was going to invite all the homeless people in town and get them pissed on champaign and wear a dress...

yep, there is a woman there. I am not sure about the phallicness of it. Possible freudian art slip Smile I am not so sure about the eye, I think it will maybe be one of the things that go; I thought it looks a bit too cliche. But, as you like it, it has made me think about keeping it. and thanks Smile

ps. usually, the finished painting looks radically different from the initial strokes, hence why I wanted to post this, because I will enevitably ruin it at some stageSmile

Wow, look at you go! And that's a very flexible model you've used for that painting...

Big Grin that was fun. I think you should find a corner for it, the vid, at your showing, I think it might make people want to take one home. Nice soundtrack.

Big Grin yep, it really took me only from the beginning of 'sister ray' to the end to get this outline done. And as the music got faster, I was all over the place Smile

just a small note, I hope that in the paintings in 'real life' it is evident that the whole 'impossiblility' of the model is evident. I mean, they are real lines, hopefully, but not real dimesions, perspective, or even figure-art positions.

you know, I was thinking I will make a video for the exhibition, too. Maybe not this one. but that is a good idea. Maybe get a really old TV and play it from a VCR recorder. If I do, I will credit you :*

Hysterical

you see, that is why i come here. to keep me grounded. and also entirely petrified that I am actually going to be showing this to other people... well done Billy, like the 'imagined' mocking wasn't enough, you have to give me the real life 'chiken wing' version. Tongue

would love to see a still of the finished project. (your mug was in the way most of the time) ---btw, all that dress needs is a thick belt.

Leanne may kill me, but she inspired me. I hope someone will come along and wrangle the pic into the post as it is suppose to be, but for now here is the link.

Funny, it doesn't look like a lizard, although it is gorgeous, reminds me of a girl I met while on acid.

Shem,

I would call it Crucifixion and Birth. Definitely leave it as it is. It has an archetypal quality, don't mess it up. As far as the other people being formal, I think a story is in order. I was once going to go play at a place that didn't usually get the type of music I was playing at the time, although I could play more of what they were use to, it wouldn't be much fun for me. I discussed it with a friend of mine who was older and a seasoned musician. He said, "Play what you enjoy, if you are enjoying playing, they will enjoy it also."

How long after picking up the brush, the first masterpiece?

The goal is not to obfuscate that which is clear, but make clear that which isn't.

That is a perfect title for it. I am surprised I didn't see it. Thanks.

Yes, but only when she's not crabby.  She's a lot like the Wicked Queen in Snow White,
only her 'crabby' has subsumed the Wicked Queen's 'Magic Mirror'.

(If you examine the lower right portion of the image, you can see a jumble of Mintie wrappers.)

I must say I have no knowledge of what Leanne looks like, but this is how her personality looks to me. I even give Dale the benefit of the doubt most days =)

PS I did put her pen in hand so I'm assuming she's writing something brilliant at the time.
