A tiger cub was discovered stuffed in a large suitcase next to a stuffed toy by airport officials at Bankok after an overweight suitcase was sent to be X-rayed.

The 31-year-old Thai woman who owned the suitcase was booked to fly to Iran where exotic animals are popular. A tiger cub could have fetched around 100,000 baht ($3,196) in Iran.

An X-ray of the large suitcase revealed a live animal, and when the case was opened the small tiger cub was found in a drugged state next to a large cuddly toy.

“He appeared exhausted, dehydrated and couldn’t walk, so we had to give him oxygen, water and lactation,” said Chaiyaporn Chareesaeng, head of the health unit at a wildlife conservation centre in Bangkok.

Why have a sentence at all? The man learned his lesson, and the lion cub was unharmed. It's not like Korea doesn't have other lions.

so if they smuggle drugs just do the same and let them go if you think they learned their lesson?

All creatures are a part of this planet and deserve respect whether it be a turkey vulture (I know it's a bird) or a magnificant lion.
I welcome the day when we live in a perfect world, when no animal's life is taken for granted to be as our food, clothing, pet, or for any type of entertainment.

i think if we look to a punishment from ourselves it's always a more harsh than fair.

if i had my way it would be the SJ way lmao.

I'm not sure how Viet Nam should punish its drug smugglers. It would depend on the type of drug, I think.

I don't know about this particular tiger, but tiger species seem to be "under threat of extinction". Smuggling one into the Middle-East is certainly not helping. And the poor thing was not treated very well, either. Now I'm not asking for the death penalty but a heavy deterrant needs to be put in place. This is not a one time off thing, these animals are very sought after as pets and for their fur.

So yeah, a pretty heavy prison sentence and a fine.

good point. would you feel the same the same if they had been smuggling fake videos, or software or designer gear, or does the fact it's an animal make a difference. it does for me.

i agree but that doesn't mean she was innocent. i'm still leaning on the side of no jail or just a little because of the fact they're probably mules as you say. something does need to be done though.

People will always head for where the money is. It's just human nature, I suppose so we can't blame it for happening. We need to deter it though before it's too late.

lets say we deter by giving big prison time. who would be we be punishing? certainly not the ones who create the trade. no, like sj said. it's the mules who have nothing, the bottom rung of the ladder that gets it. all that happens is the buyer just gets another mule. for me this is a hard one to call because i agree with everyone lmao. like vf says; whatever the outcome, something needs to be done to stop the sale of species in danger and the illegal killing of other species.
