NaPM

April is National poetry month in the states, probably the month of moon worship or hyena hunting in whatever backwater places you are all from.

In honor of that, I have in the past arranged NaPM events, usually with more planning, though I would still like to see if we can get enough last minute interest to do something here.

The "something" would most likely consist of making a commitment to write one poetry per day for NaPM with the restrictions that the topic and possibly form would be posted daily (keeps you cheaters out).

If you are interested in the challenge respond to this post to confirm interest, if it exists, I will manage the event.

I'm interested. But to have the form prescribed might cause me a bit of a headache, as I've not even written in all the common ones yet.

you are very brave, I would most likely keep it simple or make it formless.

Just don't mandate that my attempt be good, and I'll be fine. The trying isn't too much of a chore. Tongue

i moved it to the poetry discussion forum seeing as it's about poetry. not sure if should be in the pigs ass or somewhere else but we'll see Smile

i'll try and take part but the longer forms may take up too much of my time (i'm not one of those "a poem in a few minutes" people) Big Grin

I've seen these done, but never tried them before. Like Mikey, I think I'd use it as a first draft creativity exercise, and hope to develop a few good ideas from it.

I'm in.

Would you look to separate the days into multiple threads in Miscellaneous, and then have us post to the day's thread?

Alright, well my procrastinating obviously left me until the last minute to suggest it and I was thinking of just throwing the whole thing as I don't know if we really have enough committed participants. Still, I guess joiners-inners could always start halfway. I will start a thread in poetry for fun with the days topic and NaPM plus the date as a title. Everyone adds to the thread, at least this is the best way imo though I am (as always) open to suggestion.

Are there any more questions about the rules before I post?

Yah, You say this and then bang out 2 poems in the time it takes me to figure out that bees don't actually sleep through the winter.

ok, once again we will all have to play victims of my procrastination. One of the ways to continue the fun and participation is for the organiser to "keep" score. This is done by keeping a daily record of participants who get a point for meeting the criteria and then one entrant has a chance to gain an extra point by opening up a daily voting for the "best" entrant. The person with the most points at the end of the month is crowned PotM.

I don't want it to be negative and discourage participation though, so I am I asking if people would like to add the fun and excitement of a voting and the laurels of a crowning or just post a topic everyday?

those poems were inside me for 58 years before they came out, now i'm empty Sad

i think voting would spoil it. take away some of the fun. plus i'd never fucking win, an odd newb might also take part if they weren't threatened by a vote...we can still have fun cos it's in the for fun section.

I don't like the idea of voting either. Inspiration should not be tied to yardsticks.
