Last Night I Dreamt Your Perfume
#1
Last night I dreamt your perfume
While I held you in my hand
Last night I dreamt your perfume
You will never understand
The way you make me feel
The promise that you give
Last night I dreamt your perfume
Lost in those dreams I live

Last night I dreamt your perfume
Arched fingers cupped your breast
Last night I dreamt your perfume
Felt your warm breath brush my chest
With gel coat slide I gripped you
Sensation through my veins
Last night I dreamt your perfume
She, who bears no name

Last night I dreamt your perfume
Your body meshed with mine
Last night I dreamt your perfume
A guilty pleasure, sweet, sublime
Quiet by my pillow
Your touch I never feel
Last night I dreamt your perfume
This morning, wished you real

When a girl disappears and then later on if you smell whatever she washed her hair with, it all rushes back, and knocks you around inside. Funnily for me, when I smell pot smoke I can see the last one more vividly in my mind that at any other time. I don't think she ever wore perfume. Soap and water and that sort of thing was enough.

People read and interpret poetry in many different ways, no one has yet read this and seen it for what it is. There are a couple of keys lines that hint at its true meaning but I am happy for it to be read and enjoyed or not as the case may be and for people to take from it what they will.
Sadly I have spent nights holding on to two particular pillows smelling perfume that soon faded along with any hope of reconciliation.
cheers for your thoughts, appreciated

It sounds like a masturbation poem. But whether she's really there or she's disappeared, she still knocks you around inside.

I think this poem is about a guy fantasizing about some other woman while he's with his girlfriend...our wishing she (the girlfriend) was something more than she is.

I love this poem..It really encapsulates the sense of loss you feel when you wake up after dreaming you are still with the one you love and wake up alone, with only the residual scent of their fragrance to keep you company. Very sad.
