Thoughts on nudity

is it good bad or who cares;
(this is not an i love porn thread)
and not speciffically about censorship though i know that will rear it head up.

why are men's tits so different than women's tits when it comes to public displays?

I have no idea what the big deal is about nudity. I'm not keen on seeing people walk down the street with bits flapping in the wind, but mostly that's a safety issue Big Grin

Nudity, like "bad language", is not in itself the problem -- it's all about intent. Madonna flashing a nipple deliberately, for example, is offensive because she's old and slutty and intended to offend -- but boobs out breastfeeding, for example, seems to cause an uproar that has no place in civilised society.

tits like all other humane body parts do have a sell by date and should be taken off the shelves before it's reached.
breastfeeding in public should be the norm. as long as it's not done while crossing a busy road Big Grin.
i would gawk and perky boobs because i'm a man and i like perky boobs but would that be a problem?
guys with man tits are out there strolling the summer hot streets in their droves. sat at the front door with beer in hand etc. but we rarely get to see the women. i do admit to liking tight t shirts :blush) is that it. slightly naked is better than totally naked?

For those of us who live in hot countries, slightly naked is the best way to be -- all the way naked and you're just inviting sunburn. From experience, slathering sunscreen lotion in delicate areas is not wise.

i've never been into split legged sunbathing but i see your point Big Grin
you could sit in the shade though..well not you personally but people.
or in a pub. that would be so hilarious Hysterical i can understand now why they try to stop such things happening

I was about to say I have no problem with nudity... but now that I think on it I'd be disturbed about encountering a flasher, for instance. It's a matter of context, I guess? Like I would think breastfeeding was a very benign kind of nudity, but Leanne is right people go crazy over it, say its disgusting and all of that. WTF?
PS. If you can, try your hand at giving some of the others a bit of feedback. If you already have, thanks, can you do some more?

the flasher thing would disappear in a world full of nudity Wink
on a semi serious side,
would global nudity (weather permitting) create more cases of rape?
and what would happen if some country made nudity a law. would there be an uprising?

Rape doesn't happen because people see flesh (despite what out-of-touch judges will let pass for defence), it happens because people are violent and disgusting scum. That wouldn't change regardless of clothes, as rape is NOT a crime of passion, it's a crime of hate and power.

There'd definitely be an uprising of some sort Wink... at least until the novelty wore off.

People flip out about nudity. That's just the way it is. Men lose their minds and spend every dime they have every weekend trying to see women naked. Men and women both obsess over their looks and people make a huge deal out of a pair of boobs ( R ), but don't seem to mind graphic violence as much (PG-13) . . .

I don't really get the big deal with all of it, but honestly the way things are suit me. I don't want to have to look at ugly, fat naked chicks and I'd really rather have the pretty women remain clothed so that I have something to fantasize about Smile

It isn't like their is some kind of porn shortage or anything . . .

and I suppose until people stop thinking of the naked body as a pornographic object, that's the way it will stay

One day all animals may have to wear clothing so that zoosexuals aren't tempted so much or maybe just build big fences so that veggiesexuals don't get too hot and bothered while driving . . . we are already sending up huge plumes of black smoke to blot out those oh-too-beautiful skies- those god damned naturesexuals get too randy when they see a sunrise . . .

Wait a minute! Are you implying that your animals aren't wearing clothing NOW!

That's disgusting.

i just saw it's in gen discussion Sad

i suppose it wouldn't be such a good idea in schools. Blush

i think the younger the person the more mucky thoughts they'd be having. as mark said some of the old wrinklies would be a little yucky. but tha's down to society surely.

in some countries fattness is seen as a good thing as it denotes wealth.

that's good idea. putting young perkies on display in front or mid twenty year old male teachers.
i doubt one of them would get through a semester without being sacked for immoral conduct Hysterical

I think covering your nakedness if you don't have a great body is just good manners. I, for instance, feel no need to show off my stretch marks and man boobs, and in return I'd like to not have to look at a very middle-aged, overweight woman in what amounts to a bra and denim hot pants. I have nothing against women breastfeeding in public, and think anyone who does is frankly Victorian, but it would be nice if people followed some kind of age and appearance appropriate dress code.

Exactly, sj -- if it weren't taboo, people wouldn't get so bloody giggly and stupid about it.

As for only sexy people being allowed to go naked, I'm afraid you lads are in for a bit of a shock -- your view of ugly might be entirely different to someone else's, and I don't see much difference between being ugly clothed or nude. I've seen people wear some bloody offensive shirts!

I remember discussing life drawing with my high school art teacher once. He told me there was no way he'd ever want to sketch a supermodel -- why bother recording someone whose own body said nothing about who they were?

Our bodies are evidence of our passage through life. Just as lives take many different shapes, so do bodies. Why be ashamed of it?

i agree to all that but i'n not sure i'd want a high energy hormone ridden 25 year teaching my 14 to 16 year old daughter if they were both in the nude. call me a prude but i'm not sure 14 year olds are best people to sick in a room with naked guys Hysterical i was 14 once and from experience we were pretty much dirty bastards even when clothed.

Well, to be fair, you probably couldn't do it now, with all those moral issues ingrained in our society -- but it pisses me right off when someone (women are just as bad as men, possibly worse) goes to the pub on a Friday night, when there are bikini waitresses or topless, and assumes that they're sluts. Visible flesh is not an invitation for sex.
