Two Poems Written in Philosophy Class by Heslopian
#1
I

I am a terrible person.
I wince at Voltaire.
two girls discuss
Descartes in turn,
reading their notes at
the front of the class,
and all I can think is
how short their skirts are.
Forget conversion camps,
Philosophy class
is the cure for gayness.

II

I hate their clear voices,
their trendy fashions,
grey V-neck shirts
and red cardigans,
how they belong
in photographs
from student handbooks,
and glossy dramas
about college life.
I bet they drink
and go dancing together,
and hang around
outside lecture halls,
being young and being young.

Wow! This was before my time here so I'm definitely glad you spotlighted this Leanne. (Note to self: go back through the older threads ASAP)

Great job, Jack. I've always been a fan of your work, but this takes the cake.

going to repeat mark, this really is wonderful. the close is great; the honesty is wonderful, and the tone is perfect.
Written only for you to consider.

I applaud you, Jack. As usual, you have captured a moment and shared it with us in such a manner as to give us a glimpse of your personal microcosm.
PS. If you can, try your hand at giving some of the others a bit of feedback. If you already have, thanks, can you do some more?

Writen with style, and humour-- I could not help but thing that the Lecherer would also have been aware of the front of class couture. The gayness cure line, and final line, were quite the making of it, and ot me, in some way, provided a hinge for the two parts.

Going through the spotlights! Nicely contrasted pieces. The first captures the naiveté and hormonal (perhaps homophobic) ignorance of certain youths, while the second piece illustrates the jealousy and bitterness of some elderly. I miss those old school days! As for myself, young or old, I'd be eyeing those coeds with 'loving' intent.

Holy geez. So relatable. The words just seem so candid, like you wrote them down as soon as all the little thoughts came to your head. Wonderful, thanks for that.
