It's Official!

A poet, a venerable Ms.
At punctuation was really a Wiz.
But the wrong use of it's.
Would give her the shits.
Hurrah, it's official, it's now 'tis!
Oh what a wicket web we weave!

Well! I'm glad the committee finally made a report.
Good one JImmy, well that is if you aren't GJ Smile

'tis a moderately clever limerick taking a poke at poor GJ! tsk tsk Smile

'tis how we express our love I suppose, like putting a frog down her dress, or would that be a toad? Oh dear I've committed a faux pas and cross pollinated the threads!

Thanks Dale, I reckon our intrepid gj will cope famously, she's a champion Smile

Not so sure about the frogs and toads though, that sounds like an all out amphibious assault.......

Fau pas and cross pollination are wonderful things! essential for the continuation of humanity Wink

Dale it's perfectly fine to go on rabbit trails, side-notes, cross-pollination and even respond with a limerick of your own here in the 'Poetry For Fun' section. That's why they let the redneck moderate here Big Grin They know I can't do any damage :p

Yeah, I'm having difficulty getting it down that each one of these forum thingys has different rules.

My comment above was somewhat tongue in cheek, within in the Larkin tradition from where I cross pollinated with a toad.

Ha! Yes. We're both in that club!

Erthona again: "My comment above was somewhat tongue in cheek,

Oh those toads! Always good with their tongues.
(If you like flies, that is.)

And Mark: Someday I'll fill you in on my redneck qualifications.
(They're the people who get it done while everyone else is still jerking off.)

Haha Ray, today is the day. I'd love to find out there is another redneck around here :d

And as far as the different forums having different rules, it's really quite simple: if it says 'Moderated by Mark' then it's not too serious :d

He is talking about your propensity to go all Mount Vesuvius on anyone who has certain grammatical/punctuation error that fall under the heading of pet peeve for you. Not my experience mind you. As to why he thinks so, on that, you would need to consult the cricket! (Don't they make such a nice crunchy sound when you step on them? Smile

I'm sure that she'd want me to point out that there are some
punctuation errors in that limerick:

    A poet, a venerable Ms.
At punctuation was really a Wiz.
But the wrong use of it's.
    Would give her the shits.
Hurrah, it's official, it's now 'tis!

Line 3 should be:
But the wrong use of "it's".

Line 5, depending on your intentions, should be one of these two:
Hurrah, it's official, it's now "'tis!"
Hurrah, it's official, "it's" now "'tis!"

P.S. Line 5 doesn't scan all that well. Hysterical

Erthona spake thus: 'I still like "trees break wind" better!'

I'd quibble a bit on the "better" part as methane beats oxygen twelve
ways from Sunday.

If you'd experienced the aftermath of the Boxing Day eating binge around my neck
of the woods, you'd see my point if I hadn't combed my hair right.

Ugh, ray, is that where you got your binge from 'around your neck'? I know my mother used to say to my brothers 'I could plant spuds in the dirt on your neck' but I bet she didn't know it was edible..oops I didn't know you were writing a run-on line.

Is your Line 5 example a trick? - they look identical to me

I bow to your sentience ray,
Clearer than any X-ray,
Such an apostrophic art,
In profile, much like a chart,
I here, my thanks do convey!

Line 5, to my eternal dismay
Should've been,
Not hurrah,
But who? ray! Wink cheers
