Call of the Wild

I used to carry a quarter
if I needed to make a call

thought I was up the creek
without my phone today

but watching the water
fall

away from the city
and the news

I found myself
breathing again

smiled at the discovery-
a quarter in my pocket

"[W]ater
fall" is a fun line
break.

I find myself very slightly confused by the two waterway images - up the creek and water/fall.  Watching the falls from a canoe downstream?  Certainly not approaching the falls  from the upstream side!  The overall sentiment is very good, especially remembering how to breath without a phone.

(During the interregnum before cells were universal, I got a page on my beeper, with phone number.  But beepers are one-way...  Was at the mall - remember those, pre-COVID? - and although I had a quarter the only public phone demanded a credit card.)
