Mother’s Inventions
Deer pass next to our windows
like sleepwalkers,
in distance like dispossessed persons
the asylum of the outside
welcomes their hungry brains.

The one plus, no there is no plus, but that so many forests have been cut down around where my room is, the deer simply walk around me at night like they own the world.
I see how some can see the outside as the dispossessed. My totem bird is the turkey-vulture, and the deer are aplenty by the side of the road. They are more alive to me, the opossum and skunk and ghosts and strangers passing in cars on the road.
The things circulating out there are what jumpstart me.

I am reminded of the blind indians passing in the night in the movie Zama. An obscure movie, made in 2017 by Argentineans, but worth watching as a meditation on the futility of power.
The deer seem like an oucast tribe here, and the "authorities" are now talking trapping and killing.
