		Lahaina
first was Hollywood--
us, not them, on the moon
next we airbrushed
our divas and Redfords
like they'd never get acne or age
photoshopping changed everything--
a month in the gym with the click of a mouse
best Pacino impression I ever saw
turned out to be a deepfake
AI is a snowball
and we've packed its center
with solid ice
for the love of God,
tell me the truth
before it's tossed at me unsuspecting:
Did I dream I am?
Did I dream I am?
Did I dream I was?

Not Lahaina yet, but getting there. It's not half as bad, though. Living the matrix will solve all our problems.
Nice one.

Love the poem, but the connection to Lahaina escapes me.

Hi, Tiger. I like all the layers of uncertainty and unknowing. Makes me think of the theory that we're all holograms that's being entertained now by some in the astrophysics community.
I take the title to be a personification of the town and giving it some lines in the play, having it ask if it ever really was. I'm a sucker for this kind of thing, so I'm going with it.
Cogito Ergo Sum, that's what I say.

I feel like the battle between legacy news and grass root interpretations on social media is a bit of a tortoise and hare metaphor. Lots of terrible liars, not enough meaty evidence. Both sides know their customers. Truth, at best, is a fortunate byproduct.

Wow. Just watching a pretty moderate news source saying that fake video, archived images and video game footage of Israel have been shared 900 million times on social media.
