Critical Forums (Please Read)
#1
Hey guys. Over recent months there has been a somewhat concerning trend of members posting poems outside of the critical threads, (Basic, Mild to Moderate, and Intensive) and instead posting poems in the "Fun" forum, the "Misc" forum, and even the Pig's Arse or Sewer.

I want to start off by saying that I am probably more guilty than any of you, so this is in no way a reflection on any member or members. I always had my reasons as I'm sure everyone else does when posting outside of the critical forums but...

the site wasn't really designed to work that way. The intent was a poetry workshop. There are plenty of meaningful and informative exchanges outside of the workshops, plenty of invaluable critiques also, and all of those exchanges have value. But I feel a slight nudge back in the direction of workshopping would be best for all of us and a little truer to Billy's vision.

My hope is that we can all make a concerted effort to post in the critical forums whenever possible, even when our first instinct is to toss it in the Sewer or throw it out there as a bit of "Fun."

It's much easier for enthusiastic new members to dive in head first, it's much easier to judge what the OP is hoping for, and it's better for The Pigpen in the long run.

Everyone is still welcome to post wherever they see fit, but a little more in the critical forums and a little less outside of them seems a prudent adjustment and I will do my best to lead by example.  Thumbsup

Also, a reminder that Mods can move a thread from one forum to another if you request it.
If anyone receives a comment like "Consider moving this to a critical thread," consider it a compliment, not a slap on the wrist.

Questions and comments totally welcome.

My excuse is, I haven't been critiquing enough.  But I hear you, will try to do better.  Blush

Same here, Duke- no need to blush. I think creating more options might break the cycle, where we might have lots to comment on and therefore feel more comfortable going forward with our own. Most times I feel like I've only put in 80% effort on a poem and while I want to share it with everyone, it just doesn't feel right to ask others to spend time and energy on it. Other times, I just want to poke fun at some story in politics or pop culture and choose to do it in verse, completely unpolished. There's plenty of reasons to get poetic and have dialogue outside of the workshop forums. I really think a little tweak will get us trending in the other direction just by us all being aware of it.
Cheers for the response.

Just dropping by with a quick thank-you to everyone for jumping on board with this so quickly. The "Latest Threads" bar is already beginning to populate with more functional threads.
Also, a reminder that posting appropriately in other forums will not be frowned upon. This is merely an adjustment.
Thanks everyone.  Thumbsup
