What do you mean by flat?

I had a dear friend who late in life subscribed to the revived flat earth movement. It certainly opened up a world for him. His excitement as he proselytized me was really something.

I thought it was flat, too, until I wound up where I started, scratched my head, looked over my shoulder, then started back the other way, just to be sure.
The question posed by rowens is hilarious- yeah! what'd ya mean by flat? My advice: always walk east, into the rising sun, never look back, and the sun will never set on you... (02-19-2021, 04:17 PM)Tiger the Lion Wrote: Bound in a Nutshell

Hey Paul-
I revisited this one and gained a different perspective. I don't think this has anything to do with the "flat earth crowd", per se. Bound in a Nutshell The title gave me the clue that this will be a poem about feeling closed in once I'd discovered the earth is flat These lines indicate that the writer comes to a realization a world opened up And this line reveals that the writer gained a fresh perspective on the world, ie it is only as closed in as one allows it to be. If one is closed up, bound in a nutshell, realizing the "flatness" of the world allows one to see beyond present confines, and thus open up to new vistas. That is my fresh take, and I'm not taking it back. Took me awhile to gain this understanding, so I'm glad I returned to this short one. The well crafted short ones always require a closer reading. Thanks, Mark |
