It wasn’t a good idea
#1
A long time ago, with apologies to Douglas Adams,
some monkeys came down from the trees,
and in the blink of an eye were splitting the atom,
throwing cheap beads, exhorting their madams
to display their massive mammaries.

And that wasn’t a good idea at all,
the descent from the trees -
though Americans think it fiction
that bonobos making whoopy noises,
sodomising their girls and boyses,
may dress with great distinction,
win one of their elections -

but it wasn’t a good idea at all,
when it’s led an uptight rhesus
to nuclear war and the end of life as we know it -
which Americans think was ordained by Jesus,
who’ll sieve it and winnow it.

No it wasn’t a good idea
then as now, even the trees
were a bad idea, as Douglas said,
for to leave the murk of the stormy seas
and bare basalt of the ocean bed,
was hopelessly rotten and ill conceived.

We’re seriously peeved.

Trying to figure out who the narrator - the "we" - is. Obviously not an American *grin*
