I used this same joke in a book I wrote in 2007.
It involved Hitler. Hitler is a go to. Color doesn't exist without light. But most color is lightblind. Ew EW There is no race, I repeat. I sing my song. I refuse any notion of race whatsoever. Except in context of my comedy act. "Race only exists for the sake of comedy."--me. This goes to a question from another thread. How did you write this poem? How did it come up? Blame Tranquilitybase for putting Gurdjieff back in my drunken head.

Well, y'see, that's the problem. Race, like other aspects of the real world, exists independent of our comedy (and tragedy) acts. Civilization, too, exists whether or not we acknowledge its existence; multiple civilizations, in fact, and most of them reject the others rather than "appropriating" (that is, accepting) chow mein, Oktoberfest, parliaments and haiku from them. Today we have that accepting color of civilization twisting around and rejecting itself, the mirror twice polarized, as it were. The result is, of course, darkness. Make jokes about it, or light a candle. We're the people living at the time.

With the Capitalization of "Light" and the connotations surrounding word choices like "supremacy" and "glory", a reader might read this as regarding the Christian Christ. I can't tell for sure if that is an intended subtext. Either way, there's too much to unpack for a haiku/senryu. Still enjoyed it, mind you.

So you're saying tragedy exists inside comedy? Well, okay... but when you're living inside a tragedy, comedy is very difficult, not so?

Senryu does, however, have to do with people, so maybe. Always fun to find out how different what others unpack is from what (I thought) I packed. Laugh at everything. Forgive everything. Heal everything.
I've been saying this for months. You haven't got the pamphlet? |
