Small Town Woes

Small Town Woes

Small town Joe is full of woes,
of which he can not change.
Where is one supposed to go,
when his favorite Pho,
is miles away.

Not to mention a burger deluxe
from his favorite greasy chain.
Turns out he is out of luck,
His stomach growls with pain.

Old friends live the dream,
a miracle they call delivery.
His life right now is a bad theme,
if only there was a distillery.

Food is on his list of concerns,
spirits, joy, friends, and love as well.
When will his life take a turn?
Getting out of this small town spell.

Will Joe ever find his one true love?
A handsome find with spectacular sugar buns?
Holding hands and cuddles in his thoughts.
There is something I should mention,
something I forgot.

Living in a small town can be rough,
even if it is for a slight stay.
Hold on Joe you are tough!
The sole soul in this town who is gay.

Nice twist at the end. The meter is scattered, even within the same stanza eg the final one. Fixing it will improve the poem.

I agree that this is a piece that would be elevated with more regularity in rhythm -- step-wise, you lost me by "Old friends live the dream", although the two stanzas with five lines (however well those fifths work) are also a bit detracting. And I don't think the device you used in the fifth stanza, the "there is something I forgot" deal, is the right touch, bringing the poem to its (clever-fun!) twist -- I'd rather you just kept describing.

Plot twist! I (as someone who lives in a somewhat small town, although not gay) can really relate to this! Although, I do agree with the past replies telling you to fix the meter. It would really polish it up quite a bit!
