Nearer to God

These pestilential people cause concern
that by their thinking get too close to me.
A planned ten billion years before return
to me, the maker, was the guarantee;
yet here they come, with knowledge newly gained.
Damned Higgs, I looked away, and he sneaked in.
I could have been a little less restrained
and snuffed his "Boson", it was mine to bin;
but in benevolence I gave him due,
and that was where I made my first mistake.
The gates were opened, every one rushed through,
with leptons, quarks, and gluons for god's sake.
They're getting closer every hundred years.
Before too long I may be forced to act.
To Hawkins first; for him and all his peers,
I'll ban black holes and forces that attract.
Of course, this only if I find I must;
things would go badly wrong for gravity.
The worst case? All there is returns to dust.
That's not so bad. At least there'd still be me.

Yeh...dale (and I) might not live to see it but we're getting nearer to god and He doesn't like it. Smile

It's not that I mind getting nearer to God, it's getting nearer to Tom/God that worries me, but as I've told you before gravity is not a force, it is an effect. If you're going to play at God you one eyed bastard, at least get it right.

How long after picking up the brush, the first masterpiece?

The goal is not to obfuscate that which is clear, but make clear that which isn't.

...and I mis-spelt "sneeked". Now THAT is an error.
To other matters. You see, mass is accelerated by gravity....Force=MassxAcceleration...ipso facto, gravity IS a force like any other....so putting it another way, gravitational force divided by the mass it acts on is equal to acceleration...but it is that bloody inertia which buggers things up. What we "observe" IS the "effect" of gravity but that it IS a force is of no doubt. I still can't believe you didn't spot "sneeked". Where's you credibility, man?

well, when you only have one eye... but gravity! BTW leptons, quarks, and gluons were already confirmed before the Higgs was officially confirmed.

Gravity is not a force, unless you mean a fictitious force like centrifugal force. Gravity is the effect we observe when a large enough mass distorts space/time. At the lowest point of where the mass distorts space/time we erroneous call it the bottom of the gravity well, but this simply refers to the curvature of space/time and the necessary force to overcome the distortion the body of mass has created in space/time. The greater the body of mass, the more force necessary to overcome the curvature in space/time that has been created. Thus there is no force called gravity, it is just shorthand for this distortion in space/time caused by a massive object. This is why it takes less force to leave the moon than the earth, not because the earth has more gravity than the moon. Why would the earth have more gravity than the moon? Was the moon somehow found lacking when god was passing it out? Gravity: what a ridiculous notion.

this is a rather enjoyable, narrative and deep poem to read. I find it fascinating and makes me, as the reader think, your scientific references are ironic when religion and science arguments are so controversial. Simply awesome!
