She put on her face like Mombi put on her head,
for otherwise she had no face, and it put people off
if you always had a blank face, especially if
you were trying to get money from them…
lots of money. Then of course she had to
put on a personality—going out without
a personality was nearly as disturbing as
going out without a face—one that would
go well with her face. Having a personality
that did not match your face created a sense
of cognitive dissonance in the people you met,
and if the dissonance was too great they would
try to put you in a mental institution. Not that
one could hold her, all she needed do was remove
her face and discard her personality and it was if
no one could see her. This was not precisely true,
but she would become so non-descript that eyes
would slide right off of her, like a snail on a grease
covered incline plane. She would’d made a wonderful
assassin, but such was not in her nature, not, mind
you, that she cared anything about human beings—
which was also the case of the rest of her kind—but
she disliked messiness, and there was no way to kill
a human without there being a mess, what with all
the bones, and blood, and brains, that tended to leak
out. Unfortunately the rest of her kind had the same
predilection. So many more would be dead if not for
that…well, mores the pity. Still she did her damage
financially, and as a result was able to live an
opulent life, and sometimes even be on the
cover of those fashion magazines. You know
the ones with the pictures of girls with the
oddly slender figures, other-worldly beauty
cautionary note: Men.....if you are ever dress-
ing to go somewhere.....and the woman you are
with, who is most likely......in the bathroom says,
for otherwise she had no face, and it put people off

Just a while longer dear, I’m still putting on my face.”

How long after picking up the brush, the first masterpiece?
The goal is not to obfuscate that which is clear, but make clear that which isn't.
