Who writes poems ever day?

It doesnt work out great in forcing it for me. Does it for you?

I used to force it and it worked so-so, but now I only write when I feel like it. Much better.
I used to carry a tiny recorder around for taking notes about potential poems or actually dictating them.
I'd go for months writing 5 to 10 poems a day. I was obsessed. Then I got a decent medication and I
stopped writing maniacally. It was a great relief. The poems? Most were crap, but some were quite good.
I refer to them for inspiration sometimes. The bad ones are particularly helpful as I feel a great urge
to make them better.
It's hard to believe that person was me as the poems seem to be written by someone else.
Oh, wait, I WAS someone else.

Unfortunately I write about two each day, sometimes more. It is a curse to have too much inspiration so perhaps it is not so bad if one does not write a poem a day. Obsession is tethered to the person who writes on the regular and unfortunately that is where I sit.

I write a poem when I get an idea for one... and can remember it long enough to write and save.  Sometimes three a day, sometimes one or less a month.  I can also write on an assigned topic (challenges are great - almost like having an idea myself) or when it's been long and long, force myself to write something for exercise - example, "write this day a Petrarchan love sonnet."  The result of that last procedure is, as He Who Has Ascended justly put it, generally shite.  But not always.

Happily joining the hijack, with overtones of Jefferson Starship echoing in my brain.

When I first joined this forum, I was in a fever, writing every day, after a silence that lasted decades.  Now I do well to finish a poem in a week.  Natural progression, because of what I've learned on this forum from the veterans who have stayed around.

I totally agree about the challenges at which CRNDLSM excels.

Likewise with me Tim, as having folks put critical eyes on my stuff has always helped.

As long as I stay observant in the world I can come up with something to write.  And as you know, with me, I like to edit trees to toothpicks. I may spend way too much time whittling, but I love the process (many thanks to Rita Dove).  Many times I'll whittle clean down to saw dust and bloody fingers...

If I avoid the urge to express some "BIG IDEA" I'll usually find poems all around me, and in plain sight.  That said, I know I need to work on descriptive language, because I have the dangdest time fitting words to images.

I write pomes when I’m very tired, or mildly buzzed - say a single beer after a very long day of work. I have drunk very little for a few years, and as a result find it easier to get a little high on less.
There was a time when I was writing all the time after a long period of silence, like TqB, and the pomes from that time remain my personal favourites.
In the past few months it’s been relatively often, but not as much. Let’s see how long it lasts.
