Where I live in rural B.C., Canada, we don't have any homeless people ... which I am most thankful for.
If someone experiences great loss due to fire there is an out pouring of giving from community members. The same sort of thing happens if someone becomes ill/injured and cannot work.
Within our grocery store there is always available a food hamper which we give to.
