Killer whales have recently been
seen to offer food to humans
even pressing gifts a second
time when we refuse the first.

Obviously it’s a pattern
which they practice with each other
but their motives for including
people in it are obscure.

Can it be they think we’re infants
now we’ve grown so fat, on average,
and they think we’re starving children
who could grow up to be killers?

Or have we at last gained street cred
with our howling boom-box sonar
and they’re offering us candy
hoping we will join their gang?

Do we dare to keep declining
proffered gifts from killer whales?
Are they primitive, or seeking
politicians they can bribe?
