Humor, as the ever more sophisticated tell me, is a defense mechanism that is mistakenly meant to disguise insecurity.

In that case I should be hilarious, but I'm not.  My attempts at humor don't make much laughter.  But maybe I just have mediocre anxieties, yes, I'm pretty sure that's it.  Not the kind that make great humor.

I've read a lot about fascism.  The documentary version of The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich is the cause, seen at a very young, too young probably, age.  I'm not old enough to remember it as an actual threat to my existence, so I don't take it as seriously as I should.  More the way Joy Division took it.  But there is something peculiarly seductive about the idea, as Ralph Fiennes said about donning an SS officer's uniform for the filming of Schindler's List.
