A Simple Touch

As I engage in conversation
my focus is shattered by
a tap on my shoulder.
I look, only to see no one.
Confused, I turn around
to see a fleeting smile.
I can’t help but join in.
Catching his eye
as he walks away,
I feel my face flush.
Desperately hoping he doesn’t notice,
I go back to talking to friends.
Neglecting the few seconds,
that felt like hours in my head.

Hoping that it meant something,
knowing that it was probably nothing.
I do the safest thing:
nothing at all.
I really love how honest this poem is. It's straightforward and speaks to a very real emotion in our heads. I guess the only thing am not clear about is, was the fleeting smile from the guy you liked? Also, in the line "Neglecting the few seconds," you do not need the comma in the end.
