A Simple Touch
As I engage in conversation
my focus is shattered by
a tap on my shoulder.
I look, only to see no one.
Confused, I turn around
to see a fleeting smile.
I can’t help but join in.
Catching his eye
as he walks away,
I feel my face flush.
Desperately hoping he doesn’t notice,
I go back to talking to friends.
Neglecting the few seconds,
that felt like hours in my head.
Hoping that it meant something,
knowing that it was probably nothing.
I do the safest thing:
nothing at all.
