remembering that it is important to read widely...read books, magazines, blogs, articles, smut, labels, comics, billboards, prescription packets...read it all and if it doesn't make sense, put it down. Do not take things too seriously. 

Whoa! Typo there. The ones you put down are the ones that make sense.
The ones that don't make sense are the ones you learn from.

After reading this, my only option (handy at the time) was to look at randomly generated computer code.

I used to look at what often appeared to be random computer code.
On closer examination, it wasn't the code that was random, just its output.
