wikileaks founder such a nice guy
sweden is appealing the bail but i'll be surprised if they win. the british courts are well know for giving celebs bails. you or me would have no chance.

no he more or less did that. most of the leaders jumped ship and left him to be the napolean he thought he was.

as i said in the other thread, "it was bound to happen, the swedes didn't bring anything new to the table"

meanwhile manning is still in solitary. he obviously doesn't have assange's law team

sometimes you make me smile

you give more credence to assange than to a man who risked his very life force. admittedly he was probably told they wouldn't let him get caught and if he was, would be helped in a fashion as to secure his quick release. manning may never well be released but sticking julien away for a week or so is a travesty. i'm stunned at that kind of thought process. so for you then freedom of speech should really only apply to julien assange. anyone else should rot in solitary. guess that clinches the assange debate then, you get the thumbs up from me on this one vf. assange truly is the hero.

Yes but the only reason why he is being prosecuted is because he is the founder of wikileaks. They don't give a flying fuck about his sexual assault charges. Un point c'est tout.

you do not know that for a fact?

it may be the women feel they can get something out of it. the swedish judiciary may feel that way. everyone might want their bit of fame. the thing is he's been charged with a crime. thats all you me or anyone really knows.

what is imperitive is that he when charged get's treated like anyone else in sweden less womens rights get put back by the rapist pleading the assange defense. wiki fuckin leaker or not for whatever reason he's been charged with a crime. he is not so special he's above the law.

there are rumours that manning will cop a plea and lighter sentence by implicating assange in the choosing of which files to get or leak. if this is true assange has a great chance of spending his life behind bars. were i him or anyone else, the faux rape charges if that's what they are would be the least of my worries.

at the end of the day you don't know the truth. you don't know if he carried on without a condom after being asked not to...if he did he's guilty under swedish law.
as for assange stating he never knew manning or helped him read this in it's entirety from the independent

Bradley Manning spent yesterday, his birthday, alone in a tiny, bare prison cell, without a pillow or sheets on his bed, in weak health and wracked with anxiety at the prospect of a prison sentence of 52 years.

The young American soldier has faded into the background as international ructions continue over the hundreds of thousands of pieces of classified material from the US government that he is alleged to have supplied to WikiLeaks. Now the fate of the whistleblowing website's founder, Julian Assange, lies in the hands of the 23-year-old former army intelligence analyst.

Yesterday US sources revealed that prosecutors are awaiting a decision from the American Attorney-General, Eric Holder, on what form of plea bargaining they should offer to Private Manning in return for him incriminating Mr Assange as a fellow conspirator in disseminating the classified information.

Officials at the US Justice Department, who are under acute pressure to prosecute, privately acknowledge that a conviction against Mr Assange would be extremely difficult if he was simply the passive recipient of the material disseminated by Pte Manning. Any evidence that he had actively facilitated the leak, however, would make extradition and a successful case much more feasible.

Friends of Pte Manning stress that so far he has refused to co-operate with the prosecutors. However, they also say that after seven months of solitary confinement at the Quantico Marine Base in Virginia he is in an increasingly fragile condition. He is charged with leaking a US military video showing a 2007 attack by Apache helicopters that killed 17 people in Iraq, including two Reuters employees.

Yesterday, speaking the morning after his release on bail of £240,000 as he fights the extradition request from Sweden for alleged sexual offences, Mr Assange insisted: "I had never heard of the name Bradley Manning before it was published in the press. WikiLeaks technology [was] designed from the very beginning to make sure that we never know the identities or names of people submitting us material."

But Adrian Lamo, a former hacker who had been in contact with Pte Manning and eventually turned him in to the government, has told the FBI that Mr Assange had given the young soldier an encrypted internet conferencing service as he was downloading government files and a dedicated server for uploading them to WikiLeaks.

Mr Lamo claims that Pte Manning had "bragged" about this to him. In one email, now in the possession of the Justice Department, the soldier allegedly wrote: "I can't believe what I'm confessing to you... I'm a source, not quite a volunteer, I mean, I'm a high-profile source... and I've developed a relationship with Assange."

David House, a computer programmer who visits Pte Manning in prison, said: "I have noticed a steady decline in his mental and physical wellbeing. His prolonged confinement in a solitary holding cell is unquestionably taking its toll on his intellect."

The authorities had initially stated Pte Manning was being kept in solitary confinement for his own safety. Friends like Mr House now believe it is being done to put pressure on him.

Pte Manning downloaded the files he is accused of subsequently sending to WikiLeaks while serving with Operation Station Hammer in Iraq. He put the classified material on to a Lady Gaga CD, with the music wiped out.

He described lax security where "everyone just sat at their workstations... watching music videos, car chases, buildings exploding, weak servers, weak logging, weak physical security, weak counter-intelligence, inattentive signal analysis... a perfect storm."

His emails also reveal that he was emotionally fraught after breaking up from a gay relationship. He wrote to Mr Lamo: "I'm a wreck. I just wanted to be nice, and live a normal life... but events kept forcing me to figure out ways to survive. I've been so isolated so long... I'm self-medicating like crazy when I'm not toiling in the supply office.''

Robert Feldman, a US lawyer specialising in security issues, said: "We kind of have a picture of a troubled young man with obvious problems. Yet no one in the Army system picked this up and he was allowed access to secret information. And we also see security around the place was pretty loose.

"So a trial would be embarrassing to the DoD [Department of Defence] whatever happens. But if they can prove complicity in the part of Assange in organising the leaks, then a picture can be drawn of an Assange, an older man, who manipulated an emotionally disturbed younger man. But to do this they obviously need evidence of complicity."

Mr House claimed that friends of Pte Manning have become apprehensive of speaking up for him because of systematic harassment by law enforcement agencies. Mr Assange said his American lawyers have told him that a grand jury has been secretly empannelled in Alexandria. A number of hackers have claimed they have been offered money in return for gathering evidence of WikiLeaks wrongdoing.

as i stated above, if i were assange i wouldn't be worried about low chance of prison sex charges compared to what the out come to my life would be should they prove a connection to manning and me. personally i see him making a rod for his own back.

no proof of this but I'd bet MI5/6 & CIA/FBI have a lot of resources used in monitoring his every breath right now, wonder if he is thick enough to use the phones and computers in his residence?

if the do have such an email as the hacker describes, that alone is connection enough. the fact he said he never knew manning in the media is something he can't go back on.
excerpt;
Mr Lamo claims that Pte Manning had "bragged" about this to him. In one email, now in the possession of the Justice Department, the soldier allegedly wrote: "I can't believe what I'm confessing to you... I'm a source, not quite a volunteer, I mean, I'm a high-profile source... and I've developed a relationship with Assange." if the above is true then that would be damming to any defense assange would have had.

and if the following can be proven;
But Adrian Lamo, a former hacker who had been in contact with Pte Manning and eventually turned him in to the government, has told the FBI that Mr Assange had given the young soldier an encrypted internet conferencing service as he was downloading government files and a dedicated server for uploading them to WikiLeaks.
it would seal his complicity in obtaining the leaks, as opposed to merely disseminating them.

listen, lets leave likes and dislikes of assange off the thread.

realistically i can't see him committing rape per say. (not what we (men) would class as rape) but he has been charged, and he should face those charges. are the swedish courts trying to make a name for themselves, probably but if what the women says is true then he should under swedish law be charged whatever browny points the courts are are trying to win. if found guilty he should get a small fine and a short suspended sentence. (in my opinion) he would i think have a good chance of being found not guilty.

is the usa involved in the swedish court case....i doubt it, for one i think it would be harder to extradite him from sweden than it would be from the uk. to my mind the uk want him in the usa as much as the american gov does. though when an extradition order is made for assange the chance sweden will give him up are great. and if they don't that wouldn't be a problem. sweden will not let him stay in the country, he disowend his own country so he'd prob return to the uk. in which case the yanks would be giggling as they fap.

did assange know manning, did he have talks or share emails with him, i think he did. but that doesn't matter. if they have emails that show he did then the odds are he did. did assange set up an encrypted server specially for manny? i say he did but then again what i think doesn't matter. if an email corroborates the fact he did then the odds are it's likely he did, which in itself would point to the fact he new and talked with manning.

did assange throw manning to the wolves. i doubt it but again what i doubt doesn't matter. the facts are assange has a great law team manning does not. the fact are assang's solitary was a walk in the proverbial park compared to what manning is going through.

does assange weaken any forthcoming case the usa may bring by talking to the press as he does. most definitely, what he's doing by talking as he does is put on record statements that if untrue can be proven to be so at a later date. the i never manning being the most corrosive remark he could have made for himself. his lawyer needs to tell assange to stfu and quickly. thing is assange is a narcissist and thinks he knows best.

should assange serve a long time in prison? personally i detest the man but objectively i don't think he should, manning on the other hand signed a contract and as such should possibly be responsible for his own stupid actions. i doubt he leaked the stuff because he had high morals, the truth is it was probably the opposite.

i won't lose any sleep should assange get life or even the death sentence which he wont. he's of no imprortance to me and as such i couldn't give a toss what happens.

is assange a truthful (in the braod sense of the word) man? i class myself as pretty good at knowing people and i'd say he's one of the most untruthful and mistrustful men i've seen on the media. again that's just my point of view but i'm pretty good at pegging people if i say so myself.

I can see him doing what is alleged, the accusations are simply taking what he wants and doing what he wants without permission or any foresight of the consequences, look to wikileaks and it's the same story there.

The having sex with a woman while sleeping, in the absence of consent, is rape in the UK & US also as is the having sex if he was told to wear a condom but refused too, I cant see the Swedish authorities turning there back on centuries of impartiality and fairness just to assist the US with a smear campaign, after all Europe is a power in it's own right and to be fair trade to and from the US is minimal so the US really has nothing to force the Swedish authorities with, I just don't buy that there is a conspiracy involving 2 civilians the Swedish court system and prosecutors with the British authorities and courts and prosecution service aided by Euro-pole at the request of the US, it just seems a bit far fetched.

Neither do you. But I am entitled to an opinion and let's face it: They pressed charges, dropped them and then picked them up again? That is a huge motive for suspicion.

And don't get me wrong - he did a crime and he must be trialled for it. All I'm saying is that I think that Justice doesn't have its blind fold on.

was it not the case that there was one accusation that wasn't really going anywhere then another accusation surfaced so they started prosecuting both?, I know the Euro warrant was dropped the first time but that was for a technical reason then it was corrected, it would seem on the face of things that either of the allegations on there own could simply be denied and the jurisprudence of one's word against another's would get a not guilty result or a refusal to charge, two girls against him is difficult to emplane away.

The justice in all of this is for the Swedish jurors to decide, the courts & prosecutors in the UK & Sweden don't decide on the facts of the case or the guilt of the man, but a guilty verdict will get him kicked out of the EU and bared from entering most countries as he will be a sex offender and I think that is the aim of the game in this case.

so what you meant was in your opinion the only reason why he is being prosecuted is because he is the founder of wikileaks,

thats fair enough. though like i said, i'd be much more inclined to think the usa want assange in the uk because it would be easier to extradite him from there.

while it's easier to for european states to extradite people between themselves. it's a lot harder for say, the usa to extradite someone. the usa would have a much better chance extraditing him from the uk because of the ties we have than extraditing him from the likes of sweden. (who are already pissed at the yanks of the banking fiasco where they had to give certain info away concerning swiss accounts. ) i think the usa would be really happy if assange stayed in the uk for a while longer, they night even be happy if the swiss charges were dropped; the reason being that that it means the swiss have first dibs on his ass.
