It's likely due to culturally perceived gender roles, where women not only make good housewives, they're also weaker and docile so safer to let into your home than a male stranger.

I suppose an argument could also be made about biological differentiation between the sexes, as TS pointed out. The stereotype of females is that they are more detail-oriented than men, so presumably they'll be more finicky and orderly about the house.
PS. If you can, try your hand at giving some of the others a bit of feedback. If you already have, thanks, can you do some more?

tell that to a gay guy hehe, just kidding. Angry

what the housewife who takes on the roll of maid/cook/nanny/washer woman etc, it seems a little unfair and though i hear that the roles are changing i don't believe it.

But surely mothers tend to spend more time caring for their offspring than fathers. How are you going to reverse that?

it's being reversed daily, more women are working than ever before and more men are staying staying at home looking after kids.

vf: i'd say the ratio of butlers to maids worldwide is about 1000 or more to 1 in favour of the maids. people do have drivers and houseboys etc but by far, maids and nannys are the biggest section of home helps there are.
