What do people think?

I'm in that dilemma now. A poem in Misc sparked a poem. So as not to hijack that thread I posted mine in a new thread in Misc. Then after begging for crit I reread the rules which said critical is allowed but Misc is for poems not requesting it. Was just thinking of asking quix for advice on moving it to a workshop (worthy of people's time or not} or just leaving it be.

So yeah, the forums are a little slippy slidey but do I think it is of great import? Not really, convince me otherwise.

I do think newbs that post in fun and misc do it because either they have not given crit or don't necessarily want it.

yah, I also think sometimes people aren't sure what exact level of feedback they are looking for so the basic-mild-intensive acts as a barrier, not as a tool

I wanted everyone else to chime in first but essentially, I think what people want is:

  1. A forum for feedback
  2. A forum for non feedback

And for the feedback forum it should always be understood that it is to the best of the person's abilities (some people probably don't feedback in intense because they are worried they don't have the level of feedback to offer)

What do you think?

also, I am not even talking about the newbs - they follow the general intent the most. Long time members always end up just posting in Misc and then when I ask if they want feedback they say yes.

"Chicken swap" ?
I had no idea there was such a thing as a chicken swap.
Well, chalk up another mark on my ignorance list

I remember Tom ragging on me for not posting a poem in intensive, my response being that a crit with just one point could be the vital. On the other end a critique that’s too intensive could cause someone to flee. Maybe tags in the thread title: Mild, intensive or
any. ????

yah, maybe, but to what purpose.  I can't imagine someone requesting intensive being upset if they only received a minor bit of feedback

Maybe it's just me being me. If I can't wrap my head around the basic concept of a poem in intensive (Jove, Michael wtf?), or not as knowledgeable about poetic devices, then I don't comment about the passages I can understand there. I always felt like less informed comments were more appropriate in the other workshops. Maybe it's just me.

I agree 100% which is why I think maybe we should consider just having a Poems for Feedback forum and a Poems not for Feedback forum

That way everyone can give feedback to their respective interest/ability

honestly, a lot of times I don't feel like giving feedback in intensive because I may not have that much I want to say

It feels like forever since we've had a good banning. Can anyone recall the last time someone blew up in the poetry forums and got banned for it? Asking for no particular reason.

The most recent was Tun and before that Hawk2567.  But some go quietly; not all of them run headlong right into the sword.

I am literally watching the "who's online" list as someone is "replying" to a post and hitting the refresh key at the same time. It is like watching a slow motion train wreck

Wow! - looks like Quix is getting banished from the book of life. That has got to sting

Ha, yes.  I wasn't aware he had that kind of clout.

I remember doing the refresh refresh refresh ... they're replying, why haven't they hit send?? ... refresh refresh .... it better be good now I've waited this long ... refresh refresh

Especially if it was Leanne or tectak on the warpath.  Big Grin

He should at least learn that it is playing with fire to graffiti the poetry threads.   Dodgy

Also, does anyone know what I mean if I reference Miette the cat? On of the most recent comments had such strong Miette vibes and I can't not read it in a Miette tone.

It occurs to me that there is way too much jumbled ranting to wade through.  This is the part I meant:

What is this? And you, Maximus, dare to write? You dare to write? What shamelessness! In this you've already surpassed even the dogs.
And Miette:
"Miette is an internet-famous cat who lives with poet Patricia Lockwood. She is the subject of a meme that is used in all kinds of situations. On March 19, 2019, Lockwood posted the following tweet:"

"me, lightly touching miette with the side of my foot: miette move out of the way please so I don’t trip on you
miette, her eyes enormous: you KICK miette? you kick her body like the football? oh! oh! jail for mother! jail for mother for One Thousand Years!!!! "

I do now. I haven’t had the patience to read the last post, maybe this will help.

Maybe he will have AI write his next poem. It literally couldn’t get any worse. And I say that assuming we will see him in a couple days as Isaac or whatnot

Yes, he can't post anymore in this current incarnation (revoked).  I left him alive because I thought it might take longer to make a new sock if he can at least satisfy his curiosity about what is being said.
Even trolls can become addicted to the refresh button (the way pyromaniacs like to hide in the crowd to watch everything burn).

I hope we do not have too many incarnations before he grows bored and moves on.
