Well, there is a feedback requirement - 2 considered and detailed feedbacks for every poem posted. And the feedbacks have to be linked in the poem posted!!!

They get around 20 new poems a day from what I could gather. This makes me think there is plenty demand for what we offer here.

How do we go about poaching their users?

I see they can tag them Just sharing or Feedback please. Is your 20 poems requesting feedback?

not exactly sure, I will do some more research.  Also, you can pop in to just give some affirmation or a comment or 2 on a poem but taht cannot be considered your feedback for the purposes of posting your own

I have noticed that even poems posted as "Just Sharing" need to have 2 links to feedback given

I might post some examples of substantive feedback here for discussion and educational purposes only. I would say they definitely have a different flavor than what we offer here. Suitable for basic I guess

Not fussy, I’ll babble anywhere. Must say I’m enjoying the good company.

I just came to the klatch to post something about chickens and am confronted with actual substantive discussion. This is some seriously powerful coffee you're drinking.
I got recruited to pigpen because I was posting on deep underground poetry and heslopean (that's probably spelled wrong but I'm on my phone so it's hard to look up the correct spelling) and I got to talking (as I quite liked his poetry) and he mentioned the pigpen site and I popped over and read some of Leanne's stuff and that sold me. It's a lot of work but that is one method of poaching people that actually works.
As far as critiquing and rules I'm not going to comment on that because I was never really into doing it. But I always respected the site for offering it and considered it a valuable form of feedback for many people learning to write. As a student I never listened to the teachers or their lectures, I just sat in the back and read the textbook and maybe checked related books out of the library. So the way I learned to write was to read lots of poetry, find some stuff that really affected me, and try to write stuff like it until I wrote stuff that affected me as much. That's another form of feedback. Obviously, it's probably best to do both but my brain isn't wired that way. I do think talking with other poets and participating in challenges where you write to the same subject and get to see how a lot of other people interpret it is very helpful and I think even more important is to engage in creative wordplay and writing where you can relax and not feel stressed about doing something so profound as writing. poetry. ? Those are the main reasons I like pigpen. That and the divergent topics you discuss with people here that seem to have nothing to do with poetry.
And... I've been taking care of my neighbor's chickens the past 6 months because she's awaiting back surgery and it's gotten where it's pretty hard for her to move enough to really take care of them. She has three hand-raised chickens and one of them runs up to me and likes to be stroked on its back which delights me no end. One of them lays white eggs, one of them lays brown eggs, and one of them lays blue eggs. Yes, blue eggs! Her name is "America". I can really appreciate someone who names their chicken America.
Anyway, it's really nice messing around in pigpen again and interacting with all you wonderful people from the legendary past. Not that I don't intend to interact with some people from the legendary present as well.

Good morning. Googling Jove and Michael AI informed me that it probably refers to Jove Edmond, actor Michael B. Jordon’s barber.

Just looked that up.
Wow, so I guess that's why Ginger named her America.
Chalk that up to my ignorance of chicken breeds.

well, I picked her up at a chicken swap meet and I was sure she was a hen because she had different coloring than all the others as well as different facial features and they were all definitely roosters.

Unsexed chickens are a lot cheaper so I took the risk.  I still miss her sometimes.

I feel like maybe our forums are not currently meeting the needs of our members as follows:

Everyone who is here for a bit (our older members) just ends up posting in "Fun" or in "Miscellaneous".  There must be something driving this and my feeling is that our current "Basic", "Mild" and "Intensive" are just no longer serving our members as they once did.  (Don't be too concerned - we have had to change them multiple time).  Fun and Miscellaneous are also being treated as fungible.

What do people think?

I'm in that dilemma now. A poem in Misc sparked a poem. So as not to hijack that thread I posted mine in a new thread in Misc. Then after begging for crit I reread the rules which said critical is allowed but Misc is for poems not requesting it. Was just thinking of asking quix for advice on moving it to a workshop (worthy of people's time or not} or just leaving it be.

So yeah, the forums are a little slippy slidey but do I think it is of great import? Not really, convince me otherwise.

I do think newbs that post in fun and misc do it because either they have not given crit or don't necessarily want it.
