Emergency tsunami
alert along the west coast
of America: active
volcano Tonga Hunga
sent shockwaves across Europe
from deep in the Pacific.
The Earth will not remember
our future.

Watching the deer run
waves of flight across the yellowed fields
I imagine what it must be like
to inhabit their endless fear
no salvation promised
no Heaven but the buzzard’s maw.
