Hello A-R-

I guess the diet paid off.

Maybe this short piece ain't what I think it is, but I'm still going with my first impression.

I read this as xxx being hollywood porn or thin and fit and having fun, then 10 years later either having a kid or just not getting the hollywood roles gaining an extra bunch of inches to the belt. Or, fetishes are becoming more popular and mainstream so maybe you get more porn roles (rolls) in the fat sites...

HA! Of course, my first read on this short piece required re-thinking, as these short ones often do...

I still think it is about loss, and can now read it as a loss of interest in sex (while somehow holding on to my first impression).

Very, very clever 3-4-3 piece, though I do think the title is unnecessary, and actually detracts.

Thanks CRNDLSM, for opening my eyes to another layer of meaning, and I suspect there may be yet other layers that I'm missing,

I  read "XL" phonetically, as "excel." Though whether that's in X-rated activities or character in general ("a man who isn't a liberal at thirty has no heart; a man who isn't a conservative by forty has no brain"), can't say.  C?

Hey duke-
If I read it strictly as roman numerals then XXX=30 and XL=40 and ten years later than 30 is obviously 40.  But I don't think it's that simple. Or maybe it is.

ps. Now well beyond 60, I find this axiom to be true: no brains, no headaches

Hi all and thanks for the comments and interpretations. It's fun to see what people have read into this I enjoy all these versions. Mark has it spot on in the sense that XXX is 30 and ten years later XL is 40, I always liked that juxtaposition. Leaving it as minimal seems to invite other interpretations, so in that sense I've learnt from this piece.

Thanks
