PWoF is for everybody, no matter what skill level you think you are.
More experienced writers are encouraged to relax, to feel free to experiment and possibly
screw up.  (People who write excellent poems, by the way,  run the risk of making the gods
jealous and having their liver pecked out by large birds. -- Not officially sanctioned by PWoF).

Officious Obsessive-Compulsive Coordinator Ray

P.S. Copy of PWoF Instructions:

        Instructions:
        1.Wait for and find topic:
Every 24 hours at 7am GMT starting on Thursday (the Fall Equinox) a new thread will  be
posted in the Poetry Discussion Forum since it isn't publicly available and isn't searched by Google.
Look in that forum for the thread: "PWoF Topic for __specific_day__ 2016"
The topic will be there and when you you finish your poem(s) (you can post more than one)
post them in this thread not in another one.

And just when is 7am GMT:
It's 2am in Texas,  8am in London,  3pm in Manila,  4pm in Japan,  5pm in Sydney,
7pm in Auckland, etc. (Sorry Hawaii, you start at 9pm on Wed.)

To find your time Google: 7am GMT in Tokyo (but use your city).
or look it up: Time Zone Map

2.Write a poem (or 2 or more) following the topic at the top of the thread.
Within 24 hours (or as soon as you can) post your poem(s) in this SAME thread.

        3. Read the other poems and leave comments (encouraged, but optional).

        Everyone is Welcome:
PWoF is for everybody, no matter what skill level you think you are.
(People who think they're not that good are usually better than they think.
People who think they're good are always worse than they think.)

PWoF is dedicated to fun, stretching your imagination, and learning.  PWoF is NOT a contest.
More experienced writers are encouraged to relax, to feel free to experiment and possibly
screw up.  (People who write excellent poems, by the way,  run the risk of making the gods
jealous and having their liver pecked out by large birds. -- Not officially sanctioned by PWoF).

Comments are highly cherished, treasured, appreciated, and loved. They are a big
part of the fun.  It's requested that they should be light and encouraging (if you feel
the urge to make a detailed crit., do it by PM).  There's an exception for obvious typos,
miss-spellings, and grammar (except for grammar Nazis -- you know who you are).

It is not off-topic to discuss or ask questions about anything to do with yours/others
writing process and the difficulties and joys encountered. (Learning from each other seems
to be as good a reason to do this as any other.)

Feel free to sign up below (optional, as anyone who wants can play).
Questions, Comments, Suggestions, and Corrections are appreciated as well.

        Happy Writing!

        Bits left over:
rayheinrich (or lizziep in the event of his inability to perform his duties in a satisfactory manner)
is the person doing the topic posting. PM rayheinrich if there is a problem or you have a question.

If we all make our deadline, everybody will post their poems on PigPen at the same time.
(The idea that this could possibly happen is ludicrous, and anyway: while 24 hours is the
suggested goal, the officious rules just state that you must post your poems before you die.

So, Seattle will start at 11:00pm on Wednesday?

Oh, I hope I win Deathstar as a prize! I have so many dirty things for him to do
like laundry and vacuuming.

And apparently he comes with boobies now, so that has to be some kind of bonus, I guess Huh

I never participated in NaPM, but that was mere laziness. Perhaps I'll give this a shot.

(Running joke in my family is that the center of the universe is Peoria, Illinois. Don't ask how that became a joke for us)

As far as I am concerned, anyplace other than The Restaurant at the End of the Universe.

as a matter of fact, I do come with boobies. Perhaps I will post them and they can be one of the prompts

and curly strands of barley crop"

Just to clear things up:

A confused participant asked:
Quote:"I think we have a time inconsistency. Or am I wrong? In one place you say that the poem will be posted at 7am GMT
and another place you say it will be posted at 8am "England" but London is 0 GMT.....

Ah! Well, here's the reason for your confusion:
England is on British Summer Time (BST) until the last Sunday in October.
BST is 1 hour later than GMT, hence 7am GMT is 8am BST. (GMT is the same year round.)

To be politically correct, instead of GMT, I should have called it UTC (Coordinated Universal Time)
as this is the agreed upon non-British-centric term for it.  (GMT time = UTC time)

Why UTC instead of CUT?:
UTC came about as a compromise between English and French speakers.

"Coordinated Universal Time" in English would normally be abbreviated CUT.
"Temps Universel Coordonné" in French would normally be abbreviated TUC.

 Damn frogs, always at it.

Compulsively, Obsessively Yours,
Ray

P.S. While I earnestly tried to take into account everybody's various summer times,
the world's time thingee's are the result of typical human snarling. I promise that any
discrepancies called to my attention will be gracefully received and dutifully rectified.

But all this is folly:
If we all make our deadline, everybody will post their poems on PigPen at the same time.
(The idea that this could possibly happen is ludicrous, and anyway: while 24 hours is the
suggested goal, the officious rules just state that you must post your poems before you die.

And All is Vanity:
Ecclesiastes 2-11:

Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher,
vanity of vanities; all is vanity.

What profit hath a man of all his labour
which he taketh under the sun?

One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh:
but the earth abideth for ever.

The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down,
and hasteth to his place where he arose.

The wind goeth toward the south,
and turneth about unto the north;
it whirleth about continually,
and the wind returneth again according to his circuits.

All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full;
unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.

All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it:
the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.

The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be;
and that which is done is that which shall be done:
and there is no new thing under the sun.

Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new?
it hath been already of old time, which was before us.

There is no remembrance of former things;
neither shall there be any remembrance of things
that are to come with those that shall come after.
Am I having way to much f'ing fun with this shit or what? Smile
And may the gods bless billy for adding the P.S. button to our repertoire.

The cake was NOT a lie.

I've talked with many of the other participants, and we decided, unanimously, to crown you "Most Exalted Booby of PWoF 2016".

And reward you with CAKE at this very moment!

i must admit, i feel like i'm missing something. this part is throwing me off: "If we all make our deadline, everybody will post their poems on PigPen at the same time." why? i know you say this is practically not going to happen, but even the ideal of everyone posting at the same time doesn't make sense in relation to the stipulations.

1) a thread pops up. [doesn't matter what time it is, it will be the same non-clock/pigpen time for everyone] -- check.
2) we each have 24 hours, from the time the thread is posted, to write and post a poem on point. -- check

from these two premises i cannot get to the "ergo we will all post our poems at the same time."

i am going to presume this simply means within the same 24 hour period, rather than at a specific time. unless i am missing something, and there is a definite deadline that i, due to this misunderstanding, definitely won't meet.

I'm just going to assume I have 24 hours from the time I see the prompt. And if I think of something two days later I'm posting it. I'm taking this project in the spirit I believe it is meant, to inspire some poetry writing and reading. If anyone has any complaints about my interpretation they can send them to me @ lmtfa/idgas..com.

yeah, that's what i thought. but i also thought there might be more to the rules of the game that i wasn't clear about because of this 'deadline' thing. regardless, it all seems like jolly good fun.

We in NZ go onto Summer Time at the end of this month, and I'm a full day ahead anyway. I'll just post when I see the prompt, and not worry about what time it is, where. Smile

This is unfortunate as some of my best work will be written posthumously.
