Instructions and Info for PWoF (PigPen Write of Fall)
#1
Everyone is Welcome to PWoF (Pigpen Write of Fall)!:
It's for everybody, no matter what skill level you think you are.
(People who think they're not that good are usually better than they think.
People who think they're good are always worse than they think.)

And you can join in anytime you want - late, early, on and off - all's cool.

PWoF is dedicated to fun, stretching your imagination, and learning.  PWoF is NOT a contest.
More experienced writers are encouraged to relax, to feel free to experiment and possibly
screw up.  (People who write excellent poems, by the way,  run the risk of making the gods
jealous and having their liver pecked out by large birds. -- Not officially sanctioned by PWoF).

Comments are highly cherished, treasured, appreciated, and loved. They are a big
part of the fun.  It's requested that they should be light and encouraging (if you feel
the urge to make a detailed crit., do it by PM).  There's an exception for obvious typos,
miss-spellings, and grammar (except for grammar Nazis -- you know who you are).

It is not off-topic to discuss or ask questions about anything to do with yours/others
writing process and the difficulties and joys encountered. (Learning from each other seems
to be as good a reason to do this as any other.)

        Instructions:
        1.Wait for and find topic:
Every 24 hours at 7am GMT starting on Thursday (the Fall Equinox) a new thread will  be
posted in the Poetry Discussion Forum since it isn't publicly available and isn't searched by Google.

All the poems and comments for that day should be posted in the topic thread
for that day and not posted separately.

Each topic will appear simultaneously at all places in the PigPen world.
You have 24 hours from when it appears to write and post your poem(s).

Since your local time varies with your time zone,  when it appears depends on where
you live:         Your 24 hours starts at that time.

On Thursday (and the 9 days after that)
these are the times the topic will be posted:

12am (midnight) on the West Coast of the U.S. <---- Seattle
2am in Texas
3am on the East Coast of U.S.
8am in England
3pm in the Philippines
4pm in Japan
5pm on East Coast of Australia

7pm in New Zealand From Thursday Sept 22 to Saturday Sept 24
8pm in New Zealand From Sunday Sept 25 to Saturday Oct 1

and you have 24 hours from when you the topic to write your poem and post it.

2.Write a poem (or 2 or more) following the topic at the top of the thread.
Within 24 hours (or as soon as you can) post your poem(s) in this SAME thread.

        3. Read the other poems and leave comments (encouraged, but optional).

Feel free to sign up below (optional, as anyone who wants can play).
Questions, Comments, Suggestions, and Corrections are appreciated as well.

        Happy Writing!

        Bits left over:
rayheinrich (or lizziep in the event of his inability to perform his duties in a satisfactory manner)
is the person doing the topic posting. PM rayheinrich if there is a problem or you have a question.

If we all make our deadline, everybody will post their poems on PigPen at the same time.
(The idea that this could possibly happen is ludicrous.
        From the official rules:
"24 hours is the suggested goal, but you MUST post your poems either before or after you die."

I'm in, and thank you to all who have worked on getting this going. A fine welcome home for you, Ray, seeing as a clamor rose when you didn't reappear last April.

Nice rules, I'm hoping writing something new will spark me to finish some edits I have haunting me. Confused

Oh, I never thought of that.
There's no reason they have to be in Misc., in fact some other people might prefer it as well.
I'll change it to a protected forum. I was using Misc. because that was one I knew I could use.

I'll ask billy where I can re-locate it.

Is plagiarism allowed?

Also, did you just dismiss all of Australia with an 'etc'?

As long as it's you that you're copying, it's fine.

I'd never dismiss all of Australia, most maybe, but not all.
If you look below, you can see Sydney slotted for 5pm.
I just did that one time zone, but I only did one for the U.S. as well.
    Wasn't gonna go too crazy.

2am in Texas, 8am in London, 3pm in Manila, 4pm in Japan, 5pm in Sydney,
7pm in Auckland, etc. (Sorry Hawaii, you start at 9pm on Wed.)

    Here's a time zone map

You obviously don't have an outstanding arrest warrant for smuggling drugs in Bali.

I've arranged it with billy. He assures me he's going to make you a prize.

Sorry, not funny. We lost a wonderful member over plagiarized lines posted on a prompt thread.

Plagiarism will be caught and earns a lifetime ban. Please avoid it at any cost, we value our members and don't want to lose them.

No need to shame and blame, too sad. Just know that no matter how well liked you are or how much you have contributed to the site there is no recovery from that one. Please leave it alone, many of us still feel the pain. Really, it is no joke.

Safer for those who submit work for publication.

Many journals will Google the words of a submitted poem to check that

1. It's not plagiarism, and
2. It hasn't previously been published.

I had a poem of mine rejected recently (by a good Irish journal) because the publishers found it here, being workshopped.  Their rejection letter made me feel like a worm. And this for a poem they were going to pay me 5 Euro for.

Then when Billy did an upgrade he changed the site, so threads were visible only to members. This was in response to multiple hits by spammers I believe, but it worked for me!

I posted some work in Miscellaneous, and Billy changed that to 'open to all'. So I moved it.

It really bugs me, this insistence by journals on 'unpublished' work. Do they only listen to new music? Do they never reread a favourite book?

So, they a saying that because some offered you critique and you used it, they consider that plagiarism? Or, that they don't believe/not bothered finding out if your the user "Mercedes"?
