A Dream of Christmas ( HAVE A GOOD ONE)
#1
Last night I woke to curse the moon; mock-silver queen in ice-ringed crown.
Awake, awake...her glimmering light, took sleep away and stole my dream.
Around the trees dark demons played and leapt out from the shadowed ground;
I watched them through the window pane, until the glass no longer seemed

to come between me and the air, which swirled and pooled around my feet.
The chill, the chill...rose through the room, my breath became a sparkling spume,
cascading shards of glinting blades that fell in scintillating sheets,
until great blasts swirled high about, to wrap me round in stabbing plumes.

From lacerated limbs blood spun in graceful, crimson, curving arcs.
No pain, no pain... how strange was this? I felt warm sunshine on my face,
yet scarlet splashed the walls, the floor and counterpane with livid marks,
as though a lashing, hard and long, had slashed the fabric of my space.

In brightening glow, through eyes tight squeezed, a sense of certainty came clear.
What joy, what joy! I looked to see the fading field of death retire,
replaced by old familiar forms--my bookcase, flowers, pictures dear,
silk dressing gown, a shirt once worn, red socks hung by the now dead fire.

His birthday morn is dawned, at last. From dreams we stir and grateful wake.
Again, again...we greet old friends, we make our peace, have guests to stay,
sing seasoned songs in harmony, inebriated for His sake...
what horrors stalked you through last night, conditioned you for Christmas Day.

I actually got halfway through editing this before I thought, "Screw that!"

This made me sincerely happy Smile it reads like an exotic Dr. Who Christmas Special-majigger.

If you're thinking about broadcasting it past this forum, say, but otherwise, it really made me wish there was a rule like, "Once a year, on the three days building to Christmas, if you post a Christmas-themed post, everyone has to be sincerely thankful/say ridiculously good things about it."

I listened to the newest Backstory podcast today, and it seems like that kind of dynamic is what early Christmas was for.

Anyway, what a treat. Thanks Smile I'd sooner critique a gift from family than this poem Smile

Absolutely, I liked it! I think
It should become a tradition!

Question is--did you want feedback, or is this a gift-type-thing?
