Rejection
takes on a whole new meaning
once you realize
everyone is an asshole anyway.
There have been lots of places
you would've liked to go
before you died.
It feels
like it should've been your birthright,
for being in this world
where such places are.
There's not a town you've been in
where someone hasn't said:
"This place is the asshole of the country."
Maybe things could have been better.
You think of that scene in Mask,
where what's-his-face has
all those places on the map
that he wanted to go
before he died.
But Cher comes in and sees him
dead in bed.
Reminds you of how the Elephant Man
decided to go to bed one night without the pillows.
Everybody was pretty much an asshole anyway.
If only
it was that easy.
Sleeping any old place without pillows.

Rowens, I don't know what it is, but there's something about certain poems of yours that I really enjoy. I think it's that I trust the observations in this one. There are plenty of asshole towns and plenty of assholes. You found a way to make it all seem real.
Thanks.

All the world's an asshole,
and all the men and women merely pimples.
They have their tweezers and their tissues
and one man in his time pops many farts

Maybe it's the tension. I walk that thin line between poetry and utter garbage. There's a lot of energy from that tension.

That looks like one of those modern day English translations of Shakespeare they teach in some schools.
All the world's an asshole...and we're just passing through.
