I'm familiar with forumites (and particularly those in the vbulletin format) so I know the drill.
With that said... I know the drill. It takes a while to achieve true integration - time I don't really have - and my main goal here is to receive feedback. I will follow the rules to achieve my goal (adhere to the feedback requirements), but other than that don't expect me to be an integral part of this community.
Unless, of course, minimal commitment is all it takes for an invite...

I just want feedback on my poems, and I am glad to give feedback on the work of others. I'll mosey on out of the intro thread now...

hello to anyone who joined while i was on remand; hi
Hello everyone,
I joined this forum in an attempt to share my existing poetry and learn more about how to be a better writer of it. I tend to just blurt out whatever is on my mind and it happens to be in the form of poetry for whatever reason, and I've been meaning to share it and expand on it for some time now. I would also like to try new styles of writing. I am also a guitar player and often try to mend words with music, but I only really do well at one or the other... Well anyway, I hope to be a regular part of this poetry experience!

Hi, Amanda, welcome. You might want to take a look at the Poetry Practice forum. There are great explanations of how to use rhyme and meter, it might be of use to you if you're songwriting.
Critiquing other people's poems is an effective learning tool, it makes me think. If you need some tips you'll find them in the Important Threads of Newly Registered.
Five thoughtful critiques in the workshops makes you a full member able to post your own work there.
Take a look around and jump in.

Welcome, Amanda - and anyone else I've missed.
Hey guys, my name's DJ
I'm an entrepreneur and I have a passion for poetry.
I use it as a medium to express myself and to share my message to the world.
Oh and my message is that your perception of life is all that you have.
Look out for some poems by me because I know that you will enjoy them!

Hi, DJ, this is a workshop site where members post their work for critiques with the goal to edit and improve.
If that's what you're after take a look at your welcome letter and the site rules and start helping out.
If you just want to post finished works and run, this is not the site for you. Your choice.

Hi, Jess, welcome.
You might want to take a look at the practice threads and give some forms a try. There's also a link on the home page to Colin Ward's Poetry Tips, a fun and informative read. You can also read the threads pinned to the top of each forum, a wealth of insight into what makes poetry work, or not.
Hope you enjoy the site.

I only just started writing poetry back in October when I fell in love. I've lost the one I fell in love with, but I'm still writing. I can't stop. If I hold in what's inside me I'm going to implode, so I write. I am looking to improve on what I've been doing- I essentially know nothing about the proper ways to write poetry/songs, so I hope what I'm doing is not as horrid as I sometimes feel it is. I look forward to feedback and learning from the amazing people and information on this site. While procrastination is potentially possible in poetry (it takes many years of practice and is one
of the skills many of us here have mastered), putting off writing 50 words is a much harder task than putting
off writing 40,000. And while procrastination is frequently a co-symptom of the brain defects that are the root
cause of short attention spans (none of us here have had to spend any effort at all mastering these); it is,
comfortingly enough, a characteristic shared by most of the great poets (especially the Japanese haiku masters).
The above is all by way of welcoming you to a fictional world populated by imaginary people who
are more than willing to help you forge an imagination capable of fashioning fictional worlds.
As sincere as ever,
Ray
