are there any sports you think should be included in the next games. or any sport you think should be removed?
with the emergence of golf globally, and cricket also, though not as much,
i'd suggest both. i'm not a golfing cricketer but i think it would be good for the games. i'd also like to see cage fighting in there.
i think sports like fencing should be done without safety clothes, and boxing done with bare knuckles and without helmets. it's easy to show heart when you're all padded up but how good wood they be under those conditions.
i'd dump the swirly ribbons and ball throwing in the gymnastics.

I know this is an old thread but it seems appropriate again.
As for boxing Billy, they've actually scrapped the helmets for this Olympics as it's actually proven that it's safer without them... I don't think they'll ever stretch to bare knuckle boxing except in the winter olympics during an ice hockey match.
I'm not a big golf fan but I'm glad it's in the olympics, it's just a shame that a lot of the top golfers haven't turned up.
I think cricket should be there as well but 20/20 cricket not that one where they play for 5 days then it rains and they call it a draw. After the success of rugby sevens at this olympics I think 20/20 cricket would be as equally successful.
As far as sports that should be scrapped from the olympics then football would be top of my list. I don't see the point. The olympics is about watching the best sportspeople in the world but the football tournament doesn't have the top players, perhaps 5 a side football would work better.
For new sports I think that combining two sports is the way forward for example clay pigeon shooting and golf. A golfer tees off then a farmer with a shotgun shoots the ball down.
On a more serious note I would like to see mixed relay races 4x100m and 4x400m two men and two women in each team. The only reason it won't work is because it would mean the same people from the womens and mens 100m and 400m running extra races, but it should happen. If Michael Phelps can swim 173 races in a week then surely sprinters can run an extra couple of races.
This Olympics so far is pretty good but the athletics starts today so for me it's only going to get better plus the fact that the events that Britain are good at (cycling and rowing) start having their finals so we should get quite a few gold in the next few days.
Alas, I feel that most poets don't give a damn about sport and the olympics so I'm probably talking to myself here... but I hope I'm wrong about that.

What's this Olympic Games you speak of? They were held in Ancient Greece, but surely that time has passed? Who is Michael Phelps, is he running against Trump?
I detest the bourgeois sport of golf. Only barefoot athletics should be allowed.

I've been watching. The swimming's been great, how do they keep going faster? Crazy training, I guess. The synchronized diving is pretty amazing but I like individual better. Gymnastics is always fun, fly through the air. I saw some archery yesterday, the wind screwed them, I enjoyed it.
I'm not big on team sport, but I like the rowing, I missed white water canoeing, that sounds like fun, I might track it down. I like the idea of more mixed sports. Your golf/skeet idea is a hoot.

Gaelic football would be great; it's pretty much only Ireland and Australia that play it so I reckon that will be one of the beeriest events in the games. And darts. And snooker. Let's get the pub sports happening. More drinking and implements that could be used as weapons.

I'd like to see American football (as you guys call it), as it would be one more sport we would dominate. Magic would be a good event, plus it is fun to watch. Hotdog eating. Rodeo events, calf roping, bull riding, etc. MMA. Did I mention hotdog eating. Oh yeah and bearded ladies in swimsuits.

I stopped watching them after the first day, when the French dude broke his leg on a vault, and it hung off sideways from mid-shin. The only other event I watched was equestrian, when the Irish horse did a face-plant. Luckily he and rider were fine.
I think there should be two Olympics held each time - one for all the drug cheats, just so we can learn what the human body is capable of when performance is 'enhanced', and one drug-free.

I agree with Leanne on snooker and Dale on hotdog eating.
I think Olympic Chess would be dope, but probably wouldnt be very watchable unless it was like chess in Harry Potter.

what about sharting;
it's a farting competition to see who can shit the furthest.
or hammer catching...it's a reverse game.
and finally; spear the referee, it's a bit like the javelin but judges are staked out at 5 meter intervals.

I would be down for seeing the caber toss in the olympics. Or bull riding.
And I think they should do away with curling. It's hard to take seriously when they are sweeping with a damn broom. You know that must have been invented by some very drunk, very bored, very cold people.

Who found a way to cheat the puck in that became so common it was accepted, like the designated hitter.
