LIFESONG

Lying in wait here at this altar, dressed in white
It’s cold and tight
The lonely feeling that keeps me down
Is spread not just through the room, but throughout the town
See where I grew up was a small place in the woods
Where all the people are saints and not a one isn’t good
Every Sunday we’d all gather together
And listen to the preacher, the man that was my father
Being a preachers daughter the eyes are always watching
So needless to say there never was a guy who did the talking
Until the day when came the one
Whose courage had no desire to be undone
Since the day we got together
We’ve lived fervently and loved each other
I began to illustrate my imagination
About a wedding day that would be filled with admiration
Shortly after he came to me on one knee
Before the sentence came out I declared Yes, ecstatically
And so I lie in wait at this altar for my groom
My love is full and ready to bloom
But as I stand I notice the tears streaming down everyone’s faces
My groom is not here like in most wedding day cases
An inclination arises to the notion of fear
As I realize my love is nowhere near
My father stands next to me, an arm around my mother and tears in his eyes
My mother stands chill with her head on my shoulder begins to cry
I go to whisper in her ear a few words that would lighten her grief
When suddenly the church doors open and I see a man,
The sight of which grants me relief
As he strolled down the aisle with a sad look on his face
I wondered what happened to make him so late
As he reached the altar my parents moved aside
He looked down upon me and opened a box in front of my eyes
I stole a glance to notice it was the wedding band he had purchased for his bride
Once he had my hand he lifted it up slowly
And he whispered a pray so holy
His prayer was as sweet as the song of a bird
So much so that I can repeat every word
“ I take you to be my wife, to have and to hold from this day forward
for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health
to love and to cherish, from this day forward, till death do us part.”
As he places the ring on my finger I feel its weight of responsibility
Staring back into his soul I acknowledge his loves credulity
He leans down to kiss my lips
I wait for the tingle but only feel my cold fingertips
He looks to my eyes, closed they may be
But I can feel his gaze on me
And in a sweet voice he whispers “Ill meet you again
At the haven of rest where no sin can enter in
I will rise on the wings of a dove
And with Jesus I will see you again my love.”

Hey, IB. You didn't, by chance, notice the rule about giving feedback before asking for feedback, did you?
