A Dark Night of the Soul Every Night
#1
There’s something worse than Cancer
that gnaws at the collective heart of Man.
An emptiness that’s closer
and clings longer than any lover can.

More real than the pale moonlight
remaining cold against its will as it
stands aloof on lonesome nights
in the shadows of an aching planet.

Stars feed on thoughtless worship,
scorching the mind of innocent flesh.
Honest women bite their lips;
holding betrayal lovingly to their breasts.

So you clasp your hands in prayer,
waiting on sleepless dreams that never fail
to conjure demons from air,
warding off the more natural feats of Hell.

The heat of distance inside
melts frost, long covering a years worn trail.
Springtime glow unleashes pride,
freeing restrained spirits—from the shorn well,

no longer cut off from land.
Restless beasts crawl through pores of skin;
burning off the outsold hand
that curled the tangled hair of love drunk sin.

Where is the happy danger:
Lost in that fathomless cavern of mind
that makes all lovers strangers,
like a Heaven that leaves the world behind?

No, only a new Heaven,
she found in lazy arms of easy love.
Shackled to her faithless God,
where no gnawing hopes badger from above.

It's just another imperfect poem that happened. But I'm done with it now.
