I’m made of Serengeti puzzle pieces.
Evolution never reckoned with city condos;
there aren’t lions in my shower.
But that’s wrong; evolution doesn’t reckon at all.
Just me, while jogging solo,
a vacillating sun as twilight companion.
I want to be what I was made for.
Chest in the mud, crawling towards a herd,
signaling go to the others; adrenaline serge.
Rip into a carcass, blood lushed face to the sky,
a smile ear to ear, hands outstretched,
like a wingspan, ocean to ocean.
We’d drag that meal back to hurrahs,
to endless fireside chatter,
endless friendship, eternal ecstasy.
Evolution wasn’t meant for city condos.
For book learning or coffee pots,
speedy cars or tick-tock clocks.
Evolution never reckoned with city condos;
there aren’t lions in my shower.
But that’s wrong; evolution doesn’t reckon at all.
Just me, while jogging solo,
a vacillating sun as twilight companion.
I want to be what I was made for.
