I thought it unfair that Leanne our shop steward puts lots of other people's poetry here, yet we never see any of hers. After reading her newly written book of poetry called Ghost dreaming, I saw this poem in it and remembered she first posted it on our very own pages here at The Pig Pen. I took another look at her poem here and felt someone should do her the honour she does for others. So I did;
She the Night
She is seedblown longpause sit and sigh
to underline, not undermine
to redefine
She’ll try
with subtle slaps to empathise
through murky mists most asinine
take tea and scones with Frankenstein,
Dorian and I
Feet once muddied stride across the sky
head bowed, I realise
that she, like swan knight mystic Lohengrin
can never speak of powers near divine
to soothe and salve; her shine
is shaded by innocuous disguise
My sighs and I
to compromise
shall bind her with poetic line
and thus enshrine
(parenthesise)
this punctuated paladin
and idolise
her phrases fine
while she, all elements
centrifuged
becomes white
space
promise
This poem and it's critiques can be found here

This poem is my favorite by Leanne. It was one of those ones you read and think, "Holy Crap! This person can flat out write." I own the collection, and it's also very good.

Hey Leanne,
This is really just wow! I wasn't a member yet when this was first posted so I'm glad Billy put it here. Like you said poetry is about craft then art and this really showcases them both beautifully. Now that I've had a sneak peek in what to expect, I would love to get your book.

I'll join with Ash, another wow from me.
This was pure delight to read.
Leanne you have a rare ability that takes and connects the reader with another world....and it is beautiful.
As for your book, I had no idea it was out there. Thanks for the pointer Billy - lets hear it for the instant gratification that is kindle. Seen, desired, aquired. I'm anticipating more complaints from my family about my antisocial behaviour.

AJ, that's very kind, thank you. Antisocial behaviour goes with the territory, I fear -- I'm positively misanthropic some days.

A copy of Odd Verse Effects running for 85 dollars at a used bookstore in Florida. What's that about? And who'd get the revenue from that?
Oh and nice poem. And I'm a Frankenstein at tea and scones too. I'm not sure if the scientist or the monster. Probably both. But, then, maybe you mean the book.

Those kinds of people are all over Amazon -- they will get the book for you, of course, after they pay the minimum for it. You never know, it might be a collectors' item...
I mean the doctor, or the book of course. I never give scones to reanimated corpses, except at MENSA functions.

I don't even know what IQ stands for.
What if the book description reads: "Much writing in the margins and highlighting." Would that tempt you? Or are they trying to set a writer up?
I simply put a normal priced one in the Cart. Emailing the publisher for a cheaper one sounds complicated.

It's always great to go back through the archives. I used to do it regularly and dredge up things people had given up on -- I should really start doing that again. In the early days there weren't a lot of members, so comments were often few and far between. It would be excellent for some of the older members to have their earlier work commented on.

Of course the whole thing is brilliant but the white space between "white" and "space" is that type of brilliant that is so obvious and natural that it feels like it existed millenia before it could possibly have been written somewhere in nature just waiting for a poet to discover it and write it down.

I promise to read it.
The title is - did I mention that yet?
the title is heroin. No wait: gold.
Gold is more pc.
(Though it does not make you funky as aforementioned stuff. Except maybe (for a short while :huge doses of Danziger Goldwasser, but no one with a normal tongue would palatise that a second time. Too cryptic? Try it yourself (the Goldwasser).
So, I read it and regardless of the context I declare this my favourite line and a half or so:
" I
Feet once muddied stride across the sky"
I see no reasons to explain why. (you punctuation evader, you. ;-) )
thank you, cheers
serge
(that is maybe - if unintended - the best secular gospel line I've come across so far. My pork pie hats)

Try to recite that first stanza three times fast. Really cool Leanne and another Ghost Dreaming inclusion! Are they all here? I could have saved $2.99. Did Amazon give you my check? Just kidding, I would have paid $9.99 for your collection, ha ha. Remarkable open and close, with great visuals between. This scientist loves, 'all elements centrifuged'!

Many of them were workshopped here -- that's just one of the reasons a place like this is invaluable. In fact, there IS no place like this. It's the only true workshop I've encountered with a good balance of supportive advice and honest opinion. I know I can post here and expect considered, careful and very welcome feedback (which is why it both amazes and irritates me when some people just don't know what an incredible resource they're wasting by not embracing the feedback element).
Thanks for your support, Chris
