New Year's Address
I sing to this
to everyone and to she who knows that it's her
(I address):
As best 's you can have it
sitting next to a heater
slowly getting stoned
the day's face is all muddy
Oh folks I never wanna stop
the Honky Tonk for
the small piece o' time I got
left at my disposal.

Well, i'm still haunted
by the last note of
Tchaikowsky' 4th symphony:
in silence absolute
we swing out dying glad
hopefully.
If I read it right
there should be a massive
blow of oxytocin
modulating my brain
to make me sail
away with one last grin
into eternity.
Just for balance:
As long as I -
as improbable as it is,
or as funky as it sounds -
am still breathing,
there's hardly any other
I would wanna spend
my time with
but you!
As long as I live
I always thought,
somebody owes me something
I
couldn't have been
that much of a sinner
before I was born
to deserve all the
kindness life showered upon me.
Rough but kind.with me
always tryin' a keep the balance
between joy and misery.
So when three nights ago
and behind me
another new year
made its entrance
into my stoned life
with sulfur and
cannon balls and rockets
painting polychrome patterns
into the night sky high
I was coughing out loud:
All that i'm needing
is to be hugged by
a warm, warm one
to keep on getting going
as much as I fall.
